I'm up here by myself currently because I just started a new job, but will be looking for a semi-permanent place for the family after the first of the year. I work downtown and would like to keep the commute to 1/1.5 hours or less, need good public schools, looking to rent a single family home/townhouse to start with. Appreciate any info you have, thanks.
If you work downtown I would look south. The Fayetteville and McDonough areas are nice especially if you have a growing family and you avoid the traffic woes of coming from North Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb and Dekalb to downtown in the morning. Your commute from Fayetteville will be under an hour on most days.
75 near McDonough is as worse as traffic gets in all of metro ATL. They are putting in a reversable Lexus lane though.
I am a NE of the Migos.
My wife has expressed interest in the McDonough/Stockbridge are so that's one place we are checking out for sure. What does the "reversible Lexus lane" mean? Will it help?

FWIW - his step-daughter is a freshman at GS.
I appreciate the offer Catmom, I like the looks of the Alpharetta area and have done some checking but I think it's gonna be out of my price range based on what I've seen.

I work downtown and live on the border of Old Forth Ward and Inman Park. Actually buying a house over here. Shoot me a PM and I can give you a good run down on things.
I'm not even sure where that is. I'm getting familiar with the area around GaTech and I guess "West Midtown" can you tell me where your area is in relation to that?

RE: OT-Judgemental Maps (mildly NSFW)
I spent 26 yrs in metro ATL:
15 yrs near the Hippie Enclave where I graduated HS with the Refugees
College yrs with the Bad Sports teams, lived near Mexicans from Cal
Worked in $$$, Old Whites, Five Flags, Vegan areas
10 more yrs living amongst the Walking Dead (not pictured)
I would say having worked in ALL areas of the city the southside commutes to Fayette and Coweta are by far the best but if I had to move back, I'd choose Decatur WIFI.
I've been back in my native home of Waycross for 5 years now where my home cost 1/6 of what my bestfriend just paid for his new home in Decatur and my commute to work yesterday was literally one ELO song long.
I miss many things about ATL but costs of living and commuting are not among them.

Appears my hotel is located in "Ratchet". From what I've seen over the last 18 or so hours, I'd say aptly named thus far... haha!

I'm exit 248c off 75. Opposite side of 75 from west midtown. Probably about a 10 minute drive. I'm really close to little five points

While staying in the Cleaning Facilities area you should check out P. Reds BBQ on Chattahoochee Ave as well as Nuevo Larado Cantina
Eating Steak Diablo from Nuevo Laredo as I type this, thanks for the recommendation, it is phenomenal!

Also there is a bar on that side of town called Ormsbys. It is kinda a speakeasy. It is under Room & Board. Has a big O on the door. It is the only thing that identifies it. Ormsby's Always a good date place, but has bocce, sand shuffleboard, darts, pool, skee ball and a hand full of pinball games downstairs. Was always a good time.
And if you challenge every Tech kid to darts all night, buying shots for anyone who walks up, and challenges the bartender and bouncer to arm wrestling contests... they give you a free shirt.
Oh my single late 20s.

Was at Ormsby's Sunday night playing shuffleboard. It is a pretty cool place, rotating taps, and they make a pretty good burger too.
