Also this whole mess started because insecure Memphis fans were crying about not getting enough respect. Cinci ecu Houston and ucf fans have tried to explain you'll get respect when you prove it over more than one fluke year in which you shared a title with two other teams.
More importantly, UC, ECU, Houston and UCF fans have near universally said Memphis will be good this year. Almost everyone has them in the top half of the league... (I know I have them #2 in the West) and nearly everyone acknowledges they could easily win the West, maybe even the league. Memphis fans seem to expect one season to make fans of every team in conference decide Memphis is the premier program in the league and the odds on favorite to win it. Memphis fans crave an unrealistic amount of respect. I have heard very little from anyone suggesting Memphis will be garbage this year. Most think they'll compete for a conference championship and could win it depending on how things go.
Show me where Memphis fans are craving unrealistic respect for last year, or for this season.
All we have here are 2 Memphis fans who are refuting the contention that Memphis was garbage for an entire decade, before last season.
It happened on the second page after someone posted they thought memphis would take a step back then all the Memphis fans got upset and demanded we all respect them as the anointed best team in league
It's called reading comprehension. Try "Hooked on Phonics" if that's still available. Take Tylenol for any headaches. Midol for any cramps.

I guess we will find out what our defense looks like on Saturday. Even though the staff will keep things simple for Missouri State and save it for Kansas

The only thing you can possibly find out about the defense against Missouri State is that it might struggle early. Even a shutout against that kind of team won't tell you much.
Same with UC this Saturday. I am pumped to be back at Nippert but I hate these games against lower FCS teams, because you can't learn a damn thing about your team.

I'm looking forward to the Kansas game. Even though they aren't traditionally a strong football program, it gives the AAC the chance for a P5 win.

What does that even mean? I'm almost 70 years old. I'd say I have been there before, when Memphis was great in football in the '60s and '70s, and pretty good about a decade ago.
The issue to me is simply that folks here act like Memphis has been a dumpster fire for a decade, or even forever, when in fact, it was about 3 seasons in a row.
So we unexpectedly have a great season, and we're understandably happy about it, and people here want to give us grief, unlike what you did for SMU in basketball. And don't give me the garbage about Brown vs. Fuente.
Who knows whether it was a one year wonder, or the beginning of something sustainable? This year will give us a clue, but the reaction of fans here is puzzling, if not worse.
A LOT of folks here gave us grief for being so horrible, and now you are giving us crap for not handling being good. It's like you guys would be happy if we fall apart again this year. SMH.

It's like new money. West Tennessee State Teacher's College is enjoying some new success.
JK...best of luck to you guys this season. I hope you guys destroy Kansas and surprise Ole Miss!

Memphis never had more than 4 wins in 5 consecutive seasons from 2009-2013. 5 straight bad seasons hurt perception.

I get it. We've already had that discussion. Three were garbage. Two were mediocre, but improving.
But I was reacting to the statement that it was a DECADE, when it wasn't, and to the general perception that we have NEVER been good, or that Memphis fans don't know how to handle success, etc.
