No, it didn't. The year Pitt won it and the year UCONN won it, the Big East was not great either year. Most other years there were three and four teams ranked in the top 25 at one time at any given time of the year. WVA and UC both had shots at the national title game and the Big East Bowl record (including BCS) was stellar (even with UC going 0-2). The Big East didn't have a blue blood in football. It had a bunch of pretty good teams/programs but no blue blood. The Big East also was split between basketball schools wanting one thing and the fb schools wanting another. These are the reasons it failed. It didn't fail because the football 'sucked' as you say. You are wrong on this one SK.
