Why does he take such glee in this. Did some guy from Houston bang his wife?

No, someone from ECU did

If UCF or any G5 team can play bigger games every week it draws more fan interest and helps build your program. Better competition would draw more interest and more eye balls which could lead to more money. If UCF could even play texas tech, baylor, tcu, kansas state instead of some of the bottom teams in the AAC every week it would help.

Do you honestly believe if UT or OU leave the big12, the rest will remain competitive???

yes.... tcu was before it joined the big 12, wvu was before it joined the big 12

in my opinion if the big 10 as we know crased, the league birth from the ashes would still be a power league stronger than the post miami Vt...
It would include 2 top 10 baylor/tcu, likely include byu and boise state..iowa state state does 47-50k attendance and 13k in basketball...they cant recruit or compete in the big 12 as is but would be a middling team in whatever new conference is created .wvu who was not so long ago a regular top 15 in the big east 2.0 and kstate
then the best from whatever combination combination of houston, navy, cincy, ucf, usf, uconn and coloardo state

im just saying a league with

East:

wvu
cincy
iowa state
ucf
uconn
memphis
(navy) if 14

west:

tcu
baylor
byu
houston
boise
kstate
(colorado st) if 14

isnt the worse scenrio in the world and likely just puts us as the worst power conference

LOL you're already writing "puts us" as if Houston is in the B12. Hello, this is the American calling.

that "us" is the the top teams in the AAC

Houston isn't in a power conference. Neither are several other schools in this hypothetical conference. I guess it's nice to dream.

Hey man, don't hate on Houston. Besides, I hear they were recently vetted by the MAAC. 03-shhhh

Remember, thats a HUGE change from just a few months ago when any expansion wasn't even a thought for that Commish and/or conf.

This is just the beginning...and its off to a very good start.

Anyone know how many votes it takes to expand?

7 out of 10 I think for a 70% and clear majority.

"Never" is a long time. Once Oklahoma finds a way out then Texas leaves. After that they'll vote in a few from the AAC along with Boise and BYU.

It will officially no longer be the Big 12 once Texas and OU leave. 07-coffee3

Of course he favors expansion, he knows the Big12 is on wobbly legs and Kansas State is one of the most vulnerable to being left behind.

If Oklahoma - Oklahoma State head to SEC the Big 12 dies
If Texas heads to PAC or BIG the Big 12 dies

Texas and Oklahoma can each kill the league. Clock is ticking

Just a thought, like many of you told posters of the G5 programs that we should want the AAC to be successful it would seem to me the AAC programs shouldn't want to see the Big 12 go away or be killed.

That said, the Big 12 is perfectly fine and many of you are making up death scenarios that are easy to believe on the Internet.

Yet the name remains - and about 5 or so schools. They invite BYU, Boise and a three or five from the AAC and you have a really nice conference. Maybe renewed P5.

To be honest, they can't kill themselves off fast enough for me. As to your insinuation, No one here is writing any thing more exaggerated then their own lack of action produces. They're killing themselves slowly with their lack of proactivity. I for one am just wishing it to speed up. 07-coffee3

Exactly. If expansion happens fine but until then I'll root for the AAC to turn into something good. Openly wishing to get out isn't helpful.

Yep...Marinatto refused to face expansion upfront...even though almost everyone said your conf would die if you don't (let alone one of the main reasons why the Big East had the smallest BCS TV contract by far...i.e. because they offered their TV partners the fewest meaningful-conf games...just 35 per season).

Marinatto tried to be the puppet to a few select teams and not the conf....and everyone knows how he and the conf turned out.

Bowlsby has tried to do the same...but he is losing control of the situation...a situation that he said didn't even exist and would never exist just a few months ago...to know leaders in his own conf stating publicly reasons why they need to expand.

Let's stop fooling ourselves the Big12 depends on Texas and Oklahoma. If they stay then it remains a P5 if they leave they are out and that will not change wether they expand or not.
The same happened with the Big East those of you thinking that Cuse and Pitt would have turned down the ACC if the Big East had added UCF, Memphis etc are living in a dream world

http://www.foxsports.com/college-footbal...hts-010313

Essentially I GOR isnt a punishment but an assurance that the non-breaching schools arent harmed. Since ESPN holds the rights to the SEC and Pac12 then it would violate their contracts with the Big 12 if they helped a member move and then lowered the payment.
So at a minimum, ESPN could help move those four schools to where they want to go and then maintain the contract as is with 4new replacements (like they did when Missou and A&M left) and there wouldnt be any damage to the income of the contract.
Great article. As one of the commenter noted...OU is the next Nebraska
