RE: University of South Alabama Initiates Exploratory Process for Football Stadium
I would worry more about the tailgaters that got there Friday night for a Saturday 11:30 kick.
Any you other South people see the series of articles on AL.com about UAb being the reason we are getting an OCS. For a school with no team, they sure are claiming success for anything happening in Mobile.

RE: University of South Alabama Initiates Exploratory Process for Football Stadium
Tulane claimed thirty thousand seats and built 24k.
South Dakota St started out 22k ended up building 18500 .
EKU had 22k the new much improved stadium is going to be 18-20k .
What number can you live with starting out all new stadiums are expandable ?
Obviously this is a question for South Alabama fans .
The original plans for the KB Dome were 23500 with expansion possible.
End Zone expansion was always a possibility and planned for.
They rushed the process and ended up with 18k then premium seating reduced that to 16k.
I included the examples of stadium plans starting out one capacity then ending up smaller once built.

You don't want Mobile public high school teams using your on campus stadium.
I'm not distinguishing between public or private, but I'm sure the USA police department does not want a weekly influx of thousands of high school students and fans for night games. Many aren't going to head straight home but will wander the campus looking for entertainment (or trouble....or both).
A school like USA actually wants some HS games just for familiarizing HS student to USA. It's not like USA has a business district on campus.
Get neighboring HS's like Baker, Davidson, Theodore, Montgomery and Murphy to occasionally schedule big games. Otherwise, it will be used for six games a year.

C'mon now, it'll be 8 games a year. 6 regular season, 1 on campus CCG a, and the spring game.

many high school football games are played at uta's maverick stadium and concerts and other outdoor events like the special olympics and the scottish festival and I never hear of those kind of problems.
UTA doesn't need the field for its college football team. You don't allow high school teams to play at your field because they'll screw up the field.
what are they going to screw up...the field is a top of the line artificial turf. the stadium is constructed mostly of concrete.

RE: University of South Alabama Initiates Exploratory Process for Football Stadium
I would think South fans want thirty thousand seats at least.
Say it is less twenty thousand would probably be the minimum not saying that will happen so relax.
What capacity would you have to have as a starting point.
All new stadiums are expandable and nice.
The emphasis is on luxury seating and fan and player amenities these days.
Three MWC schools are reducing capacity for luxury seating its a money maker. Also they are spending big money making the fan experience more enjoyable.
Curious to see what South Alabama fans think the bottom number should be. If not whatever number then I'll be pissed .

30k-35k is tossed about the most. Some want bigger for the Senior Bowl/GoDaddy Bowl, but 30-35k with expandable options (including temporary extra seating for big games) seems to be the consensus among fans.

I agree. The optimal number is about twice the number of students plus faculty. Right now, that is around 34,000. By the time the OCS is built, say in two years, the seating capacity expected should reach 35,000. The ability to expand another 10,000 seats to 45,000 seats without exorbitant cost is the goal. Then the Go-Daddy bowl could be hosted by USA.

RE: University of South Alabama Initiates Exploratory Process for Football Stadium
Update from USA President Tony Waldrop on the feasibility study of the OCS:
- The most viable location is at the site of the current intramural fields by the football field house (no surprise to a lot of Jag fans in the know)
- Seating capacity would be around 25,000, with expansion possible as needed
- Cost would be $85-115 million
- USA has determined it's feasible to build a stadium, but wants to do its due diligence in examining every option and exploring models for financing in order to be able to move to next stage of planning (Read: we need sponsorship $ from community/businesses to proceed; will not endanger academic mission of university)

Here are some drawings of a nice 30,000 seat stadium. http://www.dadot.com/project/blazer-stadium/
It speaks of UAB, not USA. Concrete or steel? Hope you build soon.

I don't have a link or anything but I'm fairly certain our AD is on record saying it would be a permanent type structure and not an erector set type stadium. Looking at our other facilities, I imagine it would be quite nice.

Did you ever hear any estimates on this?
Yep. $75,000,000 total. Debt service for $60,000,000 of that amount. Projected operating revenue ranged from $5,782,723 in the first year to $6,875,635 in the 10th year. The ticket revenue portion was based on season ticket sales of 7,272 and single-game ticket sales of 16,060.
27 individuals and corporations made the five-year, $100,000 commitments for suites.
Really nice stadium!!

Where would the new stadium site be located in the city?

On campus near the football facility. There are a couple of intramural fields there right now. It's really the best place in my opinion, with more area for parking and tailgating. The other area they were talking about around the Mitchell Center just doesn't lend enough room without some major changes. Hope we can get the funds together some time soon.

I'd rather stay at Ladd than build a stadium like FIU's.
