RE: UAb update, cause what else we gonna talk about
Quote:We now are finalizing budgets for our upcoming year, which begins October 1. Prior to that date, we must have a balanced budget proposal for each part of the university, including Athletics.

We now must get pledge payments in hand. We are already working with many of our donors and supporters so we can cover the expenses associated with the restoration of the three sports on schedule.

Solicit donations with a due date of 1 Jan and then a couple of months later ask those who pledged to move their payments up to 1 Sept?

Regardless of the reason for the change, to me it sends a message that the process is disorganized which is absolutely not the message you want to send when asking folks for their money.

That group lives in a fantasy world, always has. A year ago they would have told you no way in hell that program gets shut down when everyone else in Birmingham was yelling to shut that train wreck down.

And from what I understand, and I could have my numbers wrong, the goal is close to $30mil, so far the pledges are less then $20mil. May be the BoT flexing their muscles and forcing the issue so they can end this sideshow.

Okay you have Blazer animosity. Got it there are people over there that have stated that they pledged and their pledges are not due until January. And if you had prior knowledge that the BOT was shutting down UA football you might have warned the World, lol. As for Blazer Talk I wouldn't call them a fantasy world. The only forum that is wakes up more convince that the world is ending today is PantherTalk.

Quote:We are grateful for the City of Birmingham's efforts to move forward with honoring its commitment of $500,000 to support restoration of these programs at UAB.

Has the city honored that pledge? About a week or so ago they passed their 2016 budget without those funds included but said they still planned to find the funding.

The city council did vote themselves a 400% raise starting in 2017 though.

I don't think they would have to until 2017 budget. No tickets to buy now.

I think this guy pretty-well summed up the reaction a lot of donors might have to the proposed changes.

Here is how I replied: "I will consider providing my pledge early when Coach Clark signs his new contract. Wen that happens I will know that you are serious about reinstating the program; then we can talk. Until then I will not trust anything that comes out of a Ray Watts led administration. Alternately you can get rid of Ray Watts - if you do that I will know you are serious."

The fact that the email was signed by Watts and that it read like he or his PR idiots wrote it did not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Don't renew Clark's contract in a timely manner and thereby cast doubt on the process. Donors are reticent to pay early and therefore Watts can say, "see, these people aren't serious about bringing back UAB football".

I'm trying to save this program. If we hold pledges no football. It's that simple. This is all the boards doing. They are claiming the pledges are not real. If we don't have money in hand it will get ugly quickly.

They have NOT been negotiating Clark's contract. They have only talked a couple of times and it's dead silent now. They didn't even start when they said. I know when first contact was made and they refused more money and more facilities. Just five years. Now they won't negotiate without money in hand.

Gotta say that I haven't been keeping up with all the little details. I thought it was a done deal to bring back football. What a mess. Even if they do bring it back this is going to set them back for a long time.

PERHAPS it's wishful thinking...maybe not...it would be tantamount to claiming you got lucky, but you just took advantage of the drunk girl in the bathroom passed out. I guess getting in any way you can is satisfying to some.

FIRST, I know what I'm talking about. SECOND, I'm perfectly happy right here in the conference we founded. THIRD, I really don't care if you believe any of those statements either.

I live in the BHM area, so I hear it on the news and radio, occasionally. Because they only talk about them occasionally.

RE: UAb update, cause what else we gonna talk about
I have a friend who lives not very far from Nick Saban and he is friends with two BOT members.

Shortly after the Watts reinstatement press conference we were visiting and I said the more I thought about the tone of it all my gut was telling me that they would piddle around, get close to the first season back, announce they needed to postpone for a year and then never play.

He said "I think you're right.... but my hunch is based on a lunch with a board member who dismissed the press conference and said they'd never get the money to play."
