It's pretty easily defensible ... one school is trying to take a state name to represent itself where there are a number of other schools in the state, while the other is taking a city name where they are the one and only.

You would hear no objections from anyone if you fine folks decided to go by Lafayette.

You fully well know the difference between the two situations.

Going by lafayette would be just as illegal as louisiana

And no ... there would be nothing wrong with just Lafayette

I'll repeat this since a few of you apparently missed it:

The Lafayette Leopards would have a HUGE problem with it.

The state legislature has no control over guys on local radio show or in the paper. Jay walker uses louisiana when calling our games. The university Official Twitter page is @ullafayette. There are several other accounts that are not the universities. Our official school releases all use university of louisiana at lafayette. They use louisiana for athletics.

You compared UALR and Little Rock, the only school with that name and them using it. To ULL and Louisiana, but ULL isn't the only University of Louisiana, now are you??? If you wanted to be called Lafayette as the only university in the town with the name, that's fine. And I will gladly call you Lafayette, no matter how much Purdue complains about it. But you want to be called Louisiana, when there is another school in the state and this conference that shares that name.

Now stop the 03-weeping and we will all stop talking about it.

Don't mean to derail the arguement, but what are the chances of UAb rebranding as "Birmingham" when/if they get football restarted.

I think they should, Birmingham Blazers sounds pretty good.

To truly derail this argument would require a minor miracle, so I think you're okay.

On UAB, seems really unlikely to me that they'd rebrand. Their status as UAB seems more firmly entrenched than Little Rock's did as UALR. Of course, I live in Atlanta, so that could just be a regional perception.

I do think UAB rolls off the tongue a lot better than UALR.

RE: UALR Rebranding
UAb does roll off pretty easy, but maybe rebrand as a way to separate from momma over in Tuscaloosa.

But now the whole country, sports world, knows who UAb is. However, if they don't play again until 2017, no one will remember who they are, they will just be another startup.

They are hurting to fund their football program, rebranding cost money. Wouldnt be smart IMO to start paying for all new uniforms, signage, logos etc.

Like it has been mentioned to you numerous times ... the Athletic Twitter account is ULRaginCajuns, not sure why you continue to look over that (I've got some good ideas though). Local radio show is not the same as officially licensed radio broadcasts.

It's fine buddy, this is not going anywhere. We all know the information that is out there.

Would be a great idea for them ... gets out from under the alabama umbrella, but I doubt the Board lets them. The UA always reminds them that they are little brother

I can go setup a Twitter account and name it @ulsports Doesn't mean it's ran by the university. the account that the university makes announcements on is @ullafayette. That's my point about the officially licensed broadcast, they use Louisiana. Yes, the local guys, foote, ryckman and Prather all use UL... Which is there choice. Foote is also the editor of the paper.
