And on your official Twitter account and your radio guys uses it left and right, and there are tons of more examples.
The state legislature has no control over guys on local radio show or in the paper. Jay walker uses louisiana when calling our games. The university Official Twitter page is @ullafayette. There are several other accounts that are not the universities. Our official school releases all use university of louisiana at lafayette. They use louisiana for athletics.
Like it has been mentioned to you numerous times ... the Athletic Twitter account is ULRaginCajuns, not sure why you continue to look over that (I've got some good ideas though). Local radio show is not the same as officially licensed radio broadcasts.
It's fine buddy, this is not going anywhere. We all know the information that is out there.
I can go setup a Twitter account and name it @ulsports Doesn't mean it's ran by the university. the account that the university makes announcements on is @ullafayette. That's my point about the officially licensed broadcast, they use Louisiana. Yes, the local guys, foote, ryckman and Prather all use UL... Which is there choice. Foote is also the editor of the paper.
You obviously don't have this Twitter thing down .... the radio guys use UL.

I'm done. You're not following.
I follow all of them actually. We are obviously within the law, because we have not been told to change anything yet. Regardless, this is America... You can't control what comes out of peoples mouths... Maybe that won't be for much longer, but for now people are free to use UL verbally wherever they want. Those radio guys, call games and have local shows. Listen next year, you will hear jay walker say first down louisiana and touchdown louisiana all night.
Man, if there was ever a school that needed to get out of a conference its UL. CUSA is actively trying to better themselves and build its national brand. No way the other members would try to belittle and keep them from progressing forward on their branding as they know a rising tide floats all boat so to speak. At least they are pulling on the same side of the rope. Reading through the Sun Belt board, especially in regards to Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, and UL reminds me of the crabs trying to escape the boiling pot only to continually pull each other back down. The three above schools are monitored with a ferocious intensity and repeatedly pulled down.
Oh, and yes I realize that CUSA is made up of old Sun Belt teams but I would bet $1000, that outside of Tech, they would rather have a University of Louisiana than a city-state U on the rolls. What's in a name? Everything! As a fan and an alumnus of a city state school, we here it all the time. The funny part is that a foremost member of the P5, LSU, is the chief stake holder in this but rarely has to mutter a word because the schools in the Belt carry its water for them.

I think you completely misunderstand what is happening here. This is internet banter that is the likes of siblings picking on each other. Outside world, I give them the props they deserve to better serve the conference, inside this intraspace world, I will ruffle their feathers every chance I get. That is what rivals are for, sports is no fun without rivals.

I would like to play this game with you, I really would, but dang it, I'm just to damn tired.
Plus you can't defend your statement. Enjoy your day.

It's pretty easily defensible ... one school is trying to take a state name to represent itself where there are a number of other schools in the state, while the other is taking a city name where they are the one and only.
You would hear no objections from anyone if you fine folks decided to go by Lafayette.
You fully well know the difference between the two situations.

I think it's also worth pointing out that there are those of us who would love for ULL to be rightfully called Louisiana, and who would encourage its reasonable use athletically, but who stay out of the chaos out of respect for another of our conference members. I'm simply too far removed from the debate to say ULM fans are wrong in objecting to ULL's use of Louisiana, so I'm left to just follow the momentum built by each side. In the meantime, I just use Cajuns a lot on here.

Also, thank you for the imagery. I would now like for this to become the SBC theme song:

Yet people use ULM, which is their preference. There is nothing illegal or unethical about the use of Louisiana... No matter how many times people try to say it is, it's false. Saying you are staying out of it is false, you are siding with them. You are doing to us what you say you don't want to do to them.
Especially one called the "LSU law" would anyone of you follow the georgia bulldig law? Or the arkansas razorback law? The crimson tide law? It BS in the first place and we aren't even breaking the law as it reads even as dumb as it is. I know the name thing has been talked about a lot but do people also realize we legally changed the name to university of Louisiana twice? Legally? In 1984 and 1999. Passed by a 17-1 vote, then some judge from the purple mess decided he didn't like that. So we were forced into what we have today, not because there was a law that says we couldn't. He said because he couldn't find a law that said we could. Side note, my diploma says University of Louisiana ( no lafayette)
Being generally supportive of Louisiana I'll also say this.....CUSA is not a magical place where everyone will call you what you want and be nice to you unlike the mean old Sun Belt.

I'm not one who thinks that, we just have to keep doing what we are doing. Stay on espn with that big louisiana across our chest, Tuesday night ganes, boel games, WCWS, super regional etc. We will earn it and I'm ok with that.
Let me get something straight, it's your sports teams are marketed as Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, how is referring to you as ULL wrong???? Calling you "University of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns" would be wrong. Calling you ULL Ragin Cajuns would be wrong. Referring to the school as Louisiana is apparently wrong. So if I refer to you as ULL I am referring to your whole institution, including the sports teams but not limited to sports teams. But if I call you Louisiana I am only referring to your athletic teams and nothing more. Why would you want your athletic teams branded as something different then your institution since the reason for athletics is to promote your university???

We also brand as A-State which is not the name of our university.

All y'all did was cut out the rkansas. You have University of Arkansas, that uses "A", and Arkansas State that uses "A-state". Normal progression the way I see it.

Why don't you just refer to us as we want? And not worry about all the other stuff? Some of your fans don't like being referred to as southal, I wasn't aware of that so I stopped when someone made me aware. Why do people refer to them as nevada? Instead of UNR? Or nevada Reno Wolfpack? Because that's what their real name is. There are several examples of this.

It seems to me that the school that is trapped more than ULL is Wichita State.

It's very simple. Since the name change in 1999 the university has said "neither ULL nor Lafayette are acceptable ways to refer to the university." It should be pointed out this statement was made even before any branding toward Louisiana.
So it's wrong because we've said it was wrong from day one.
If your name is William and you've always said please don't call me that, I go by Bill and people continued to call you William (in some cases, just to piss you off) you'd understand.

As 99 said above, in 1984, following the rules in place at the time, our university petitioned our Board of Regeants for the name change and were granted it. Legally. And for those of us Cajun fans who are old enough to remember when the news hit the airways, it was one of those moments we'll never forget. I certainly recall where I was when I heard the news.
All the fighting and backstabbing that quickly ensued was instigated by LSU faithful because at the time there wasn't the gulf of separation that exists today between us and them. The 800 lb gorilla in Baton Rouge apparently no longer cares or is concerned that taking the issue to court at this point might not result in the outcome they'd like to see.
We're winning the war one battle at a time and I encourage my university's athletic department to keep up the fight.
As for this forum, before football season starts and with the input of my fellow mods, I plan to institute some rules re this particular issue that I believe will be help keep threads from becoming derailed. The rules won't satisfy everyone 100% of course, but they'll be reasonable and I believe acceptable to the majority of our posters.
So, carry on with this issue for now if you like, but get it out of your system before football season.
