The reality as you articulated is that we're basically already there even if there is no clear line of demarcation in how we are classified at least officially.

A lot of people have the same belief that we'll be reconfigured, but I'm not necessarily convinced that will happen especially because 1)they have basically figured out a way to relegate us through revenue and perception and 2) it allows them to appease us just enough to keep us around for their benefit while maintaining the same unbalanced competitive dichotomy they would have by reclassification. That is to say they are getting the best of both worlds.

That said, it leaves me hope that there are opportunities yet to pierce the bubble created by the power conferences. Not necessarily with respect to gaining admittance to one of those conferences. If we're all honest here none of us are likely ever achieving that. However, schools like Boise, TCU, Louisville, etc. have shown that you can achieve a high degree of success at this level as a non-power conference entity. I think that will be harder going forward as a result of recent changes, but there will be others that raise the profile of their program and school. Who I don't know. But hope still exists at this level.

Wisconsin in at 20.

With the G5 standings fianlized, I will not be posting further projections unless you guys really want to see it. Something tells me that's not going to happen. I will continue to track actual results and post final conferece averages when the countdown is over. Carry on.

Orlando Sentinel 2015 football countdown
This is kind of a big deal.
Orlando Sentinel picks C-USA as top conference among those without an autobid
These projections are a little quirky in spots and they are part substance and part perception.
But that makes it even more remarkable that C-USA topped the chart. Orlando is the hometown of a top AAC program, yet they projected AAC 4th overall.
So enjoy it for a couple weeks - then let's see if we can all back it up on the field this fall!

Well, Notre Dame is in at 19. Thats the last of the three independents, giving them a very independent average ranking of 52.67.

The Big 10 only has one more team to go, but don't expect to see Ohio State for a couple of more weeks.

I still check the countdown and this thread to see who is up next but I just don't seem to care now that all of the G5 schools have been ranked.

I will stay with it till Ohio State comes in at No. 1 and then give the final standings for all conferences. Might even give a couple of updates on the average conference ratings after No. 10 and No. 5.

To answer the question: Why not?

No, I mean, why is OU ranked so high?

OU fans would probably ask why they are ranked so low.

Oops. I totally misinterpreted that comment.

I did a very quick and not so thorough review, and this is what I came up with. They will have only six returning starters on defense and seven on offense. But the four not returning on offense are all on the O-line, so a lot of uncertainty there. On top of that, it looks like a transfer from Texas Tech will get the nod over last year's starter at QB.

CBS has them in at the No. 18 slot. Over all, they are coming off a late season collapse last year and an 8-5 record. It appears they are going to have to play themselves into a higher ranking with the pundits taking a "show me" attitude. Sixteen/eighteen looks like the position of -- "ok, we will give you that, because you are Oklahoma".
