Markel will be a 4 yr starter in the 1,000 point club barring injury.

One can see the confidence growing in Markel with each additional minute played. The young man can get after if on the defensive end at an elite level. Austin is already playing D at an elite level.

Those are the kind of players that this coach needs to recruit because they are his type of people. He needs to go after more DJ's and Markel's and stay away from the Kuran Iverson's and the Dominic Woodson's and the Jelan Kendrick's. They may or may not be great some day, but they are never going to see eye to eye with Josh.

When you can hold Ryan Boatright only to 6 shots in 32 minutes & 1 for 4 from 3-point land you've done a hell of a job on D.

Yea..I get what you're sayin...but part of the specific 'failure' in each of those situations has gone unspoken. I sometimes wonder how it would have been if Josh had come along second or third in the scheme of Dom's Jelan's and Kuran's coaching experiences.

Dix and Geron are certainly indications that Pastner's system works better when the kid himself is ready to 'do better'.

Lol. One thing about Josh...he would still have 'faith' in a player to succeed when most of us were not of the same opinion.

Sometimes CJP's methods of discipline really tick me off, though, but like I said..ain't nothin purty under a microscope--not even a W. I'm just glad to be dissecting W's instead of L's.

There are the 2nd chance success stories he's had, and Geron is a prime example. Seems like Godfrey is, too, but neither was the it's-all-about-me type at any point, as far as I can tell. On the other hand, I'm not sure Michael Dixon, Jr. was ever more than the MD I'm-gonna-save-the-day show. It worked out for a year, but I think that's because he got the PT he needed plus he was out of options as a senior. If he had been an incoming junior and CC, Joe and Geron got the minutes, I think he'd have been another AB at least, if not a Jelan. JMHO

Yes. And kudos to Josh for recognizing that Boatright is too good for one guy to match up with (at least one of our guys). Markel was active on defense and played well, but let's not act like it was a one on one match up.

Markel was the QB of the zone and kept one eye on Boatright all night. He stayed aware and didn't give him a single good look while he was in. Boatright buried a wide open 3 when Markel was off the floor and he was immediately put back in.

I don't understand why some can't give credit to these kids when it is so clearly warranted.

It was still a zone and not one on one. Some were comparing this to AA shutting down Robert Vaden. That was truly one on one. It's a whole lot different matching up with a guy all over the floor than it is just guarding an area.

He played well, I already said that. I'm just not going to go over the top for one guy when it was clearly a team effort that shut down Boatright.

And what does "QB of the zone" mean? In a zone, everyone already should know what they are doing, you don't need a QB to tell people what to do and where to go. If you do, you are probably in a lot of trouble.

Thank you

In our zone Markel was in charge of making sure our guys knew where Boatright was at all times. Easy to see live and on replay. I used QB as a ten for that responsibility as that is what my coach called the lead guard when we zoned against a good player.

I was under the impression that Chris and Markel were directly related. Am I mistaken?

RE: A Big Salute to Markel Crawford
I'm a huge Markel fan as I have stated many times on here and I think he is the most important piece on this team going forward. U get one more year from Austin with Markel and Woodson add KJ and Dedric to Markel, Nichols and Kedren that's a good starting five. I don't know about some of these guys though. King may transfer with Shaq and pookie but we should have a solid core next year. We won't be very deep though. Markel played 38 mins today most on team. Had 0 turnovers which is pretty incredible. He just does everything and is a glue guy every team needs. He will be a four year guy and be a great Tiger. In a disappointing season Markel and Austin give u hope for the future. Keep it up Markel. I'm a big fan.

Mostly but a couple of times we switched to a box and 1 with Markell guarding Boatwright straightup and he did pretty well sealing him off.
