I figured it would have been closer to 3K.

It's extraordinarily hard to say. UTEP (visitor) section was less than half full, and yet you could hear Miner fans in all different parts of the stadium.

It wasn't 6-7K, but I don't think 3-4K is out of shot. Y'all represented very well. Loudest fans in the 'Dome I can remember... of course, we gave plenty to cheer for.

It is hard to say under normal situations. Even harder as UTEP and UTSA share similar colors. I never go by the eyeball test - and definitely not by the visiting section. I have never sat in the visiting sections when I have gone to away games. Also, at the Sun Bowl, I see visiting fans sprinkled throughout the stadium in addition to the visiting section.

The 6-7 thousand number is coming from another forum/site. I forget which one. They were going by tickets sold at UTEP, from the alumni organization, and an organized fan festival.

Yep that is what I was getting at.

6-7K is tough because that would imply 24K UTSA fans, which is lower than expected. We have a good core of about 29K that goes to games regardless. But you (that forum you mentioned) could be right. It was a good UTEP crowd as I said.

Wow, bashing on UTEP's retro helmets featuring UTEP's old logo? I love the old logo better than the current UTEP logo!

When UTEP joined this conference back in 2005 UTEP was bashed a lot by non-UTEP C-USA fans because we had Mike Price and we were doing well at that point in football with fans saying we were overrated.

Yet when UTSA joined this conference UTSA was welcomed with open arms from other non-UTEP C-USA fans and we heard so many things about how UTSA was to be the next big thing in Texas college football with Larry Coker in charge, about how UTSA was supposed to be better than UTEP in football.

Welcome to the real world knowing how it feels like to be in UTEP fans' shoes when you think all of a sudden you're the next big thing just because you have a big name coach.

To be fair, a lot of that had to do with some UTEP fans (myself included) being too cocky about coming to this conference and dominating it from the start. It happened for most of the 2005 season with a top 25 ranking until that home loss to UAB to all the way to the humiliating loss to Toledo in the GMAC Bowl in Mobile. The following 8 seasons were all losing seasons with the only highlights being going to the New Mexico Bowl in 2010 (where the Miners got spanked by old WAC rival BYU) and beating a top 15 Houston team in 2009.

I don't remember UTSA fans being too confident or cocky coming to this conference. They were glad they were here and last season Tulsa along with Rice were the favorites to not just win the West Division but the conference as well. UTSA surprised everybody and had a good season and I'm sure they would've won their bowl game if they didn't have that bowl restriction for being a FBS newbie.

Well, we were expected to have this type of season last yr and instead we're having it this yr. So it's cool. We're getting our initiation so that's how I look at it. Gotta pay the dues before we can be successful. Good luck the rest of the way miners. Hope u get a bowl game.

RE: UTEP-UTSA game thread
The Worst College Football Game On The Planet Was …

UTEP 34, at UTSA 0
And You Care Because … UTEP destroyed the UTSA offense allowing just 70 yards, while the Miner attack didn’t have any problems as Jameill Showers found Jaquan White for a 75-yard touchdown early and connected with Aaron Jones for a 40-yard touchdown. Jones added a 24-yard scoring dash in the third, and the D got into the act on a 19-yard pick six from Jimmy Musgrave.
What Else? UTEP QB Jameill Showers completed 12-of-18 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns, and ran 11 times for 37 yards
- UTSA QB Austin Robinson completed 6-of-20 passes for 32 yards and a score
- Time off possession: UTEP 39:12 – UTSA 20:48
- UTEP RB Aaron Jones ran 21 times for 86 yards and a touchdown, and caught two passes for 36 yards and a score.

RE: UTEP-UTSA game thread
This is a long thread.

I just got home from the Ootsa game (and Cowboys game) and everyone of us UTEP fans had to tie our jaws up because they were hanging from our faces in complete surprise of our win. It was a total annihilation of the Ootsa football team. NO ONE expected this, but we'll take it. It really seemed like UTEP East stadium with the noise the Miners were making at the Dome. Many Ootsa fans left way before it ended, only a spattering remained. I have to hand it to the Runners fans, they were a class act. I never heard one disparaging word about our team or its fans. I say Thank You. You were good hosts.

Cons on the stadium: the PA system is the pits but I think it's because the sounds just bounce off the walls. Your band looked good but "pobrecitos" you could hardly hear what they were playing. They deserve better. But I guess you guys can't beat a gift horse in the mouth.

For those Ootsa fans opposite of the Miners section: How many do you estimate were from UTEP. I say at least 3,000 but I can't really say. Anyway, it was fun and God willing I'm planning of returning in two years.

Thanks Ootsa.

3k sounds right. There were UTEP fans spread out all around the North endzone.

Glad you were able to make the trip and made it back safely. Hope to see you guys next year at the Sun Bowl.

there was a lot more than 3k fans from UTEP at the game, closer to about 7k-8k.

Last year you averaged 29k and that includes the osu game. Without that game your average attendance was 26k... during a season that you went 8-4.

For the UTEP game you had 32k in attendance in a season that you were 2-5 at the time. The previous week's home game you played and lost vs FIU, you drew only 25k. I'm pretty sure there was about 8k miner fans at the game.
