A win is a win, but it's not all sunshine and roses with your defensive unit either.

They got a lot to work on as well.

Both teams gave up huge play after huge play. The thing is, we didn't claim to have the steel curtain coming into last nights game.

You can't blame us for touting our defense against the run before that game. We had excellent rush defense numbers, against seemingly good competition. Compounded by our belief before the season that our line was a problem area and not seeing any problems...until that game.

stAte was giving up close to 115 yards a game rushing heading into the game against UL. Nothing to really brag about.

See reference time and time again to Louisiana Linemen sizes.
How big are the starting linemen? If they are that much bigger
than stAte's that must be something.

I never said he wasn't, but no, he wouldn't be an upgrade over Michael Gordon. Probably a wash. Both average around 10 ypc and are pretty much the same guy. I do wish we had a big back and had returned more than one starter on the OL so we could run inside more but we don't have that this year.

UL's line is big, but not that big. However, ASU's line is light by any major college standard.

DE 6'2" 224 lbs.
NG 6'3" 234 lbs.
DT 6'4" 268 lbs.
DE 6'3" 252 lbs.

Except McGuire averages 10 YPC with Alonzo Harris...also led nation in YPC last year as true freshman. Gordon is a great back but McGuire is a special talent. One of the best athletes from Louisiana in a long time. If HUD doesn't stay on him even when everyone thought he was a junior academically...we probably never get him to campus.

We are not huge but we are athletic. Most schools at our level that get guys that size aren't very athletic. M. Quave was a TE in high school and a damn good basketball player. They all have good footwork. D. Quave will be playing on Sundays next year.

McGuire is very good but having Harris actually enhances his production. His big runs came when we had to try and shore up our DL by bringing in DBs in the box leaving the outside vulnerable. When we had Oku the last two years we were able to use Rocky Hayes and others to do the same thing. Gordon gets those yards despite our lack of a power running game inside.

Both very good players and hard to argue that one guy averaging 9.4 is better than a guy averaging 9.3. Gordon missed most of our first 4 games.

That's what happens when you have 5 different coaches in a 5 year period, each with their own ideas how to run the team. We had 1 scholarship Lineman starting Spring Ball this year. Rest are Freshman and JUCO guys, or walk-on's.

He was just stating a fact. Our true freshmen just weren't strong enough to handle a big experienced OL. Congrats.

Was he stating facts when he mentioned how slow the Cajuns looked in some of his post and how fast the Arky State defense was with superior athletes? Facts seem to change after games or at least references to certain facts.

The story changed a lot, last week we were average team who beat up on a bad TXST, we would see what it was like to face a superior defense. Now, we dominated that supposed superior defense it's not because we were good but that the defense was actually inferior...nothing to do with us. I get it stAte list the game, we didn't win it. Each coach still recruited DL, where did they all go? They quit? Kicked off?

I've said it on numerous boards now, including this one.

ULL whipped our ass in the trenches and won the football game.

Citing youth and inexperience as the reason why that occurred isn't a slight to ULL. It's the truth. ULL's lines were better, stronger and more experienced than stAte's. It's something stAte needs to work to improve.

Now... what else needs to be said to allay your bruised, offended ego?

I've never seen a fan base so unable to enjoy a big win, for perceived feelings of being slighted, than ULL.

You guys won. You were better on the field than stAte. Enjoy it! Congrats!

I look forward to the game next year. I had a good time in Lafayette this week. I hope you're able to make it to Jonesboro next year.

Freeze and Harsin recruited one DT each and one of those never qualified. Malzahn recruited a handful and one is left thanks to being granted an extra year. He is the only guy we have back after Markel Owens was murdered last spring.

We hired young exceptional OCs and it paid off but there is a cost as well sometimes. It still beats the alternative path we were on before we went with our coaching search formula.
