It should be noted that you have to WIN your conference to qualify...so only 5 schools would be discussed.
As well...I know everyone is getting on Marshall's OOC...as well they should. But they are a good team and could actually represent the G5 fairly well, IMO. That being said, their schedule may keep them from the spot...as it should.

Actually, this year only, it could be 6 or more schools considered for the access slot, b/c the AAC has no CCG, and no tiebreaker.

And you don't think Marshall's FCS schedule is a very good reason? I think it is.
When your oc schedule is one of the worst in D1 and playing NO top 25 teams how can you even think Marshall could be in top 25. A lot of teams with one and two losses Not in top 25 would beat Marshall and would be undefeated, too. There is an old saying, "you are as good as teams you play"......No top 25 teams or wins so sorry Marshall.
I believe that's exactly what I'm saying. An undefeated Marshall does not deserve the G5 slot. Sorry, that schedule is embarrassing. A 1-loss team from MWC or AAC should get the consideration. Hope that clears it up.
They may not deserve it, but I'd bet money that if they're the highest ranked team at the end of the year they'll get the spot.
lol, what makes you think Marshall will be the highest ranked?

I could see the committee taking a 2-loss UCF over Marshall, if UCF runs the table and beats a highly ranked ECU (considering that UCF's only losses are to two traditionally good P5 teams - 1 of those in the closing seconds of the game), and they'd have wins over BYU and ECU. **They're also the reigning Fiesta Champs**
It's about resume. There's no way the committee will set that precedence of rewarding a schedule like Marshall. In Hoops, the committee craps all over CUSA scheduling. Marshall's football schedule is a microcosm of CUSA perception in hoops. (They don't play anybody)

I disagree I think they will give that benefit to a one loss team but not a two loss team vs an undefeated one. But I don't think we will have to worry I don't think UCF is good enough to go undefeated rest of the way.

Who would be Marshalls marquee wins?
UCF would have two. BYU and a highly ranked ECU. They would have also gone undefeated in their conference. A tougher conference than Marshalls. I doubt that Marshall would beat Houston (with their defense and Greg Ward Jr). I just don't see the committee rewarding any FBS program that plays a bunch of scrubs. That's setting a dangerous precedence because going undefeated against a bunch of pansies means squat (due to realignment, Marshall is playing a bunch of Sunbelt call-ups).
If you don't think the committee is going to evaluate resumes closely, just like the NCAA basketball committee, I believe you're mistaken.

ECU and Marshall look like they're in good shape to go head-to-head for the Access Bowl bid... then again, Houston in 2011 and NIU last year both looked like locks to bust the BCS. Here are my deeper thoughts on the issue...
It's still really down to ECU, Marshall and Colorado State all three must lose for the two loss schools like Boise,UCF to get in picture.
Georgia Southern is ineligible this year. CSU must win their division so they need Boise to lose once more or USU not to lose so there could be a three way tie for the division title.
Its ECUs to lose BUT if Marshal runs the table, then we could run into the Big 12 problem which is Marshal will have a championship game to play and could pick up a 13th win before bowls are announced.
The current rankings could tighten up and then Marshall could jump ECU because we dont have that extra game.
As far as anyone thinking that a two loss team will beat out Marshal... your out of your mind. There is not a SINGLE professional in this sport who has mentioned that possibility and they wont. Most UCF fans know this but for the ones saying it "could" happen... no, it will not. Your BYU loss is looking worse and worse considering they are now a .500 team. Yes, they lost their QB but by the end of the year, they may just barely even make a bowl... the committee cant put in a 2 loss UCF over Marshall. Also, if UCF does beat ECU but both run the table from there, then the championshop is a TIE.
Again, they are not going to put in a 2 loss Co-Champion over a 13-0 undefeated. Just not happening.
Ultimately, what is best for the conference is if ECU runs the table. Their one defeat doesnt look bad at all and I expect the will be at least top 15 by that point... what scares me is ECU will then probably play in the Sugar bowl against Miss St or Auburn... both are DAMN good this year.
The 13th game will hurt Marshall more than it will help. The most likely opponent looks to be LaTech which has lost yo an FCS team so Marshall will be expected to win and win big.
A tough win or loss eliminates them.
A championship hurts more than it helps unless BOTH teams are ranked
