Of course this is in addition to their commitment with a new stadium. Now just work the same magic to get your basketball program out of ECU-Land. 03-wink

If I didn't know better it looks like Tulane is positioning themselves for the hoped for next round of realignment. I mean they look just like the 'Rutgers of the South,' well, except for worse athletics. But since that's what's being fixed. Ummm.

Tulane is really lucky to be in the AAC, but if they start making SMU type athletic commitments they can be a valuable member. They do have a really appealing market, cheap Olympic sport travel costs, and great academics. It sounds like alumni are starting to embrace the new football stadium which would be HUGE. The last thing we need is TV cameras showing 100 people in the crowd.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Tulane crowds will be like they were at the Superdome. With the a much more intimate stadium located on campus, I think they will have better attendance from the students, alumni, and casual local fans.

Rutgers football wasn't great but it wasn't bad. Both Tulane and Rutgers are in valued TV markets and both schools could provide access to new quality recruits. I see similarities.

I see the opposite. The AAC now looks like it might have lucked into a moneyed and high potential program like Tulane. Honestly, I think Tulane brass are thinking Big 12 long term.

Tulane football was 13-0 in 1998. I dont think Rutgers has been 13-0 in any sport ever.

So "Tulane was 13-0 in 1998" was your point?

I think all of the privates should follow the SMU basketball model. Try to become what the Big East schools were. Of course, Tulane isn't going to let all of the resources they've pumped into football go to waste. I'm just talking in general. A star player or two can really make a team, smaller venue to fill, more exposure available....etc. Then once the school is immensely popular try and translate that success to football. It's pretty difficult...but can be done.

Tulane is showing that it is committed to play at the highest level. It has to start somewhere and this is it.

I really don't think some here get it. Tulane "starts" from a pretty high base. They're not going to embarrass you academically, just the opposite. And they're is a very attractive TV market. Now they look like they want something better athletically and are showing the bucks to prove it. That's were Tulane starts. That's where Rutgers started.

I don't understand the snide remarks about Tulane. I view them as being in the upper echelon of this conference. If wins and losses are your only benchmark then half the FBS shouldn't be playing football. I think Tulane is a smarter addition than most realize right now. Plus, their Top 50 DMA will help to bring in more revenue to this conference than a good group of AAC teams.

Certain fans afflicted with Little Man Syndrome need the snide remarks.

Gotta admit, I was angry at the addition of Tulane at first. But truth be told, they deserve just as much an invite as SMU... and with their financial commitment to athletics, one could argue even more so. I'd love to see the same from Tulsa. With the hire of Mizzou's coach in BBall, they seem to be in the right direction.
