Tulane's FB coach raised to 1.5M. Just another reason to welcome Tulane
Nothing but love for Tulane. Very cool school in a cool area. We have been playing them for decades and I have no animosity towards them. They like Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Tulane is really lucky to be in the AAC...
I see the opposite. The AAC now looks like it might have lucked into a moneyed and high potential program like Tulane. Honestly, I think Tulane brass are thinking Big 12 long term.
I disagree... Many programs in this league are stepping up $$$ huge in their athletic facilities... I think what I'm witnessing here is a league who wants to separate further from the rest.

RE: Tulane's FB coach raised to 1.5M. Just another reason to welcome Tulane
Tulane has finally seen the light. I do think most Tulane fans always thought out best fit was the ACC with other "like" academic schools. Since the last round of expansion our next best option is the Big 12. Not that we are not happy to be in the AAC - we are thrilled. I shutter to think if we were still in CUSA.
But Tulane has more appeal that most think.
1. New Orleans - who doesn't want to take a road trip the the Big Easy?
2. AAU Status - In the academic world this is big.
3. In the heart of SEC country. (Tulane has more football SEC Championships than Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Vandy and South Carolina combined)
4. Some of the most fertile college football recruiting ground
5. Did I mention Tulane is in New Orleans?!?!
If we can start to see the results on the field then the sky is the limit. With the new stadium our season ticket base has expanded from around 4,000 to about 18,000 tickets sold so far for the upcoming year in our new stadium. I would expect over 20,000 season tickets by the time the season starts.

Considering that Rutgers most famous fan said that Rutgers was "The USC of the East," if "Tulane is the Rutgers of the South," does that make "Tulane the USC of the South"?
Just saying...
Personally, I hold Rutgers in utter contempt. To me, equating Tulane with Rutgers-of-anything would be fighting words... And I'm not even a Tulane fan.

Vandy > Tulane in most metrics.
That said, I'd choose Tulane over Vandy.

worse athletics than rutgers, not possible.
Rutgers football wasn't great but it wasn't bad. Both Tulane and Rutgers are in valued TV markets and both schools could provide access to new quality recruits. I see similarities.
TV Markets:
Rutgers: #1
Tulane: #51
Similar? I think not.
Rutgers wasn't bad? Sounds like you haven't followed Rutgers Football much over the past 2 plus decades or so.
Rutgers was a member of the Big East Football from 1991 - 2012 and in those 22 seasons, RU Football had just one shared conf title (in 2012, when HALF the conf tied to share the conf top spot).
RU's Big East Record by year:
2-3
4-2
1-6
2-4-1
2-5
1-6
0-7
2-5
1-6
0-7
0-7
0-7
2-5
1-5
4-3
5-2
3-4
5-2
3-4
1-6
4-3
5-2
-------
48 - 101 - 1
I'd hate to see what BAD looks like.
In RU's only season in AAC, they finished with a 3-5 record...including 2 blowout losses to former CUSA teams, Houston and UCF.
Certainly looks like you are .....

I really don't think some here get it. Tulane "starts" from a pretty high base. They're not going to embarrass you academically, just the opposite. And they're is a very attractive TV market. Now they look like they want something better athletically and are showing the bucks to prove it. That's were Tulane starts. That's where Rutgers started.
No I think we all get it. Tulane has always had everything it takes to be successful in both football and basketball. That's why I used to be the most disgusted with Tulane vs every other C-USA school back in the day. A school like UAB wasn't allowed to really better itself because of the Alabama BOD. A school like USM was trying their hardest but just didn't have the resources. No one was holding back Tulane and Tulane has resources that I could only dream ECU had, yet Tulane was pretty much choosing to not try. I don't think many Tulane fans would disagree with that statement. Things appear to be changing at Tulane and that's wonderful. Hopefully Tulane will make an SMU/Tulsa type commitment to hiring a new basketball coach next year, because they have the resources to pay 1.5 to 2 million for a big name if they decide they want to.

Give me 45 million a year and P5 status and I wouldn't care --- (actually, I probably wouldn't care anyway but the annual 45M would make certain)

I'd love to hear you explain this.
I like the Tulane addition, but SMU is in the #5 DMA while Tulane is in the #51 DMA, SMU has had overall more success in football with a longer financial commitment to athletics than Tulane, and SMU has a greater commitment in men's basketball than Tulane.
Not flaming Tulane at all, because I'm glad they are here. Just stating a few facts.

I would have never believed that the ACC was a 'legit' possibility for Tulane -- but that's before Louisville's invite.

They didn't get much more than 20,000 in the old stadium. I hope they candidate ounce that in the new one. The conference needs to get all it's members at least to 30K. With the competition of OU and OSU and being a tiny university, I think that Tulsa is going to have a really hard time doing that. In basketball they're coetipng for attention not only with the state's other universities but also with a very exciting Thunder team.

RE: Tulane's FB coach raised to 1.5M. Just another reason to welcome Tulane
Rutgers started getting better in football because Greg Schiano started getting their in-state talent to stay at home. This resulted in more success on the field. (someone posted their BE conference records above but if you look at their complete schedules they won at a much higher clip the past decade or so save for last year).
Rutgers has a few things going for it that Tulane does not:
1) It is the flagship school of their state (they do not have to compete with LSU or even Louisiana-Lafayette like Tulane does).
2) Rutgers has a much larger student body and alumni base (RU has 58,000 students and hundreds of thousands of living alumni who live in the area). Tulane has 13,000 students and a good number of their alums do not live in New Orleans.
3) I would not consider Tulane's TV market to be anything worthy to thump your chest about. Hell, Tulane has a midling TV market as compared to the rest of the AAC (below SMU, Houston, UCF, USF, Cincinnati, UConn, Memphis and Navy). Those other AAC schools also "own" their market at a higher clip than Tulane does as well.
In short, congrats to your coach for the pay raise. I hope for the sake of this conference that Tulane ups their game in both football and basketball.

Actually if Tulane is paying their football coach that kind of jack; it actually sounds like they are trying to get out of Memphisland in football.

Too late --- the Tigers are already moving out of Memphisland in football. Memphis' bags are all packed and loaded and the moving truck is pulling away. Just as long as we don't accidently breakdown in ECU's basketball land (also known as 'Excuseville') -- we can't help but move up.
Prove it on the field
It's clear you haven't watched Memphis football over the last four years.
3-9?
Last bowl appearance in 2008?
