I simply can't see Moton leaving Central unless App ups the salary considerably. He makes pretty close to what Capel was making. Simpy don't see him jumping from one 1 bid conference to another unless a significant pay raise is there. You also have to consider a buyout which even for a small conference coach is probably in the six figures. Hiring a head coach is difficult unless you have money laying around to pay a buyout. That's why most mid-major schools hire assistants.
You also have to consider that App is a dumpster fire for basketball right now. Capel has left your program in shambles. It's not going to an attractive landing spot for a current head coach simply because it is high risk. It's a complete rebuild job and those are difficult to successfully pull off. If you try and miss, your head coaching career is pretty much over or at least delayed by many, many years.
He has a good thing going at NCCU right now, so I can't see him leaving unless a school from a multi-bid conference with a half million dollar + salary comes calling (A10 or better).
App would be the right stepping stone. You generally don't go from MEAC to A10.

Going to the A10 isn't exactly stepping up into the big leagues. Several A10 coaches came from assistant positions or former head coaches that were fired. They weren't mid major coaches with a successful track record.
Buyouts are expensive and most mid major schools can't afford to pay them.
If App gets Moton, then that is GREAT for them. I think he's a great coach and he seems like a great person. I'd be excited for and jealous of them. He'd be a homerun hire IMO.

I agree with what you said earlier. The man is not leaving Central. He is WAY too emotionally attached. Did you see his face when they won the MEAC championship game?

Couldn't help but feel great for him tearing up after clinching. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite coaches in college basketball. I think we could double his salary based on what we were paying Buzz, but I just can't see him leaving Central for anything less than a Big East job.

Ultimately the decision was his and he could have just stopped answering the phone. Believe me, he wished he had. Buzz found himself into a deep financial hole. Based on his previous tenure he knew App (by itself) could not provide the compensation he needed. He put up an outlandish proposal thinking they could not meet it. The guys pulling the strings agreed to put up the cash. Anyone involved in serious negotiations knows you never put yourself in the position of allowing the other person to set the conditions. Cobb put himself and our school in just such a situation. It was going to turn out bad from the start. We had a guy who genuinely did not want to be there and a couple of guys flush with cash and ego's as big as Texas pushing their weight around.
It is easy and simplistic for people to say Buzz should have done this or should not have said that. Because his demands were met, Buzz put himself into a situation where he could be manipulated. Regardless of what some people think, Buzz is a genuinely good person. 99.9% of those making negative comments about him are ignorant of the situation. He regrets the whole thing ever happened.
I get what you're saying DG, but the way B**z left town forced me to have no respect for him. That was a very weaselly way to handle that.
I wouldn't be so quick to believe it went down as described.
Maybe not, but to date no other account has been described publicly. IF he left a voicemail notifying CC and didn't address the team, then I have a big problem with that.
That was Cobb's side of the story. There are always 2...
That's fine, but the silence of the other side is deafening.

Not live I didn't, but saw some photos afterwards. Definitely felt bad for the guy. I did a lot of research on him a few weeks ago when I thought there was a sliver of hope we might fire our coach and liked everything I read about him.

I could see him leaving for an A10 level job, but not a SBC/CUSA/MAC/CAA level job. There is some prestige in the A10.
If VCU loses Shaka to Wake or Marquette (probably unlikely), they should take a look at him.

Which players? I've never seen any of them quoted anywhere. Those I spoke to didn't relate the story quite the way it was told by Cobb.

Well, Mike Rhoades was hired by Rice, so I guess App can cross him off the list if this wasn't already known.

You know...If App hired their Women's coach on looks...they didn't do completely terrible in that department.
I loved the bid with your play by play guy. I guess he feels overworked?

I don't know if he does, but I think most feel for him, he's pretty much a one man show, though he doesn't do the women's basketball for sure as my friend Molly Cotton got to do that this year

That's what our PBP guy does. He calls Football, Men's Basketball, and Baseball, though we often will let our Women's Basketball guy call some of our midweek baseball games in case he needs a break.
Being the official Radio voice of an FBS program can be pretty difficult. Lots of situations when multiple sports overlap, and you're left pulling either some guy out of your athletic department with no experience to call games, or paying a Radio host in town to do it.

Probably why an undergraduate was doing the women's basketball, have a feeling the star students from the broadcasting program will get to do a lot more in the days ahead, app would rather use a lot of students, it helps that 9/10 students bleed black and gold to the core and would do anything to help app be an even better school. If you happen to catch a game of apps and a female with a relatively high pitch voice yet a low tone implied in it that would be good ole mrs. Cotton.

Ever broken up with someone over the phone? Dirt bag move. The guy is a snake oil salesman, every move along his career he has handled the transition poorly.
Every time I've left a job, I've met with my team (bosses and direct reports) and broke the news to them face to face.
Buzz left like a thief in the night (literally), I'm surprised you are defending his actions.

Rumor on the CUSA board is that FAU is interviewing Moton. If they have a shot, then App State surely would as well if App pursues him.
Would be an odd move IMO if he ended up at FAU. I think the guy has big time potential, so I'm surprised he'd entertain leaving NCCU at this point for anything but a fairly high caliber job.
