I wouldn't be surprised to a season similar to what USA had this year. Some close, frustrating losses coupled with some encouraging breakthroughs.

These are my expectations. Wins some we weren't and make some noise coupled with some games we should have won, but them them slip through our hands.

NC State is bad, but they're a lot bigger than you. And you're on the road. 50-50 is optimistic. I'm not sure its realistic to think that you'd be a favorite at USA. We will have to see about how good NMSU is.

Your schedule is manageable. But you will be lacking depth in the 4th quarter.
Funny thats what everyone said about Florida and look how that turned out...

Congrats on the Florida win. There's a difference between 1 FBS game and 11 of them. The schedule is manageable, but I'm afraid there are going to be some more disappointed fans when FBS reality sets in. Many of us in the Sun Belt come from a FCS pedigree. Some of us were very successful in FCS. Pretty much all of us sucked eggs at transition. My prediction of 3 wins with 5 as a reach stands, not as a dig on your program, but from the history of FCS moveups. Its about the 2nd and 3rd slots on your depth chart. No. You likely won't be Georgia State (a special case of a team that made a boneheaded decision for their first head coach and then had to move up a year too early), but its not realistic to think that you're going to have 8-9 wins in your year one transition year. And you play 7 games on the road.

My prediction for y'all . . . . PAIN. Lots and lots of PAIN, especially in that last game of the year .. . . It'll be a long and DEPRESSING trip back to GA . . . .

Not sure if you realize that Texas State will probably not be the last game for Georgia Southern next year. Schedules will not come out until as late as March 1st, 2014 for the SBC. That list is just random consisting of what teams they will play in 2014.

Doesn't matter! The last game will be brutal for them! And regardless of it's a home game or an away game... They will have to leave Georgia only to have the depressing trip back!

Yeah, I still got nothing.

Last game this year was a win in the most difficult stadium to win in the country. Since 1988, no out of conference wins not named Miami or FSU.

The parallels stop at the classification we're leaving.

Most teams that have moved up were pretty far removed from their glory days; WKU won the title in '02, but were 6-5,6-5 and 7-5 in the three years leading up to their transition. Texas St had a couple of good years in the early 200's, but were 4-7, 8-5 and 7-4 in the years leading up to making the move. Troy is the only one close to matching our recent success right before moving up with three early bow outs in the playoffs. We're fresh off of 3 semi-final runs and an SEC win. This team isn't comparable to others who have made the jump. I'm not saying we'll win the conference out of the gate, that would be ridiculous, but 3-5 wins is equally as ridiculous when you look at our team and our schedule.

Given our talent level is higher than Navy, I like our chances. I mean, we have two players from last year starting in the NFL and two more this year that will be drafted. Navy never has players that are drafted.

Navy rarely has players in the NFL period. If they were talented enough, the NFL would be there after the 4 years.

GS will not do worse than 5-7 for the year (I would be severly depressed based on the our schedule).

Also, there is a good possiblity we will play GaSt for our last game of the season. Hoping this turns into a real rivalry game over the coming years.

It is interesting to see the differences in predictions from an outsiders view vs those that wear blue tinted glasses. I think the general consensus is that GS finishes somewhere between 5-7 and 7-5. Maybe we give up the close games and have a poor season or maybe we win the close ones and have a great one. Can't wait to see what the team does next year. Hope yall can make it down to the boro and see how we do gameday Sourthern style. 04-cheers

Sorry, but this is wrong. the NFL isn't going to wait 4 years for a former NAVY player to complete his tour and then go pro-ball. That's 4 years away from the game, proper coaching, training, etc... Not gonna happen. Don't care if they were a Heisman canidate.

See? I think that's the right range, depending on a) how the ball bounces, b) how your injured guys recover, and c) how your redshirts (I figure you guys redshirted a bunch like we did and like App said they were doing) pan out.

Like I said, earlier you were blessed with not playing the top 2 teams right now in the Cajuns and stAte, plus have another move up that is comparable to y'all (App State), a new team that is still growing (Georgia State), 2 teams fresh from the move up (Texas State & South Alabama) and 2 teams that are trying to right their ship (NMSU & Idaho).

It's a great schedule for a transitioning team to have some success, but still be tested early and often.

As with App a lot depends on the performance of red-shirts and recruits. Positive is that all OOC are winnable with the possible exception of GTECH and that one is not out of the question. The option will give GaSo an advantage in many of the Belt games as well. I would predict 5-6 wins with 8 not out of the question. The one disadvantage of the option is that it often gets RB's beat up or injured as happened this year and that could be a big factor especially against what should be bigger/faster defenses.

Would stock up on all the backs you can find because injuries will happen. Not a bunch of Tracy Hams out there.
