The Military Bowl is a steal in my view because the ACC has 15 teams and a whole of bunch of them this conference would love to play against so 7 through 9 is still going to be a solid pick. St. Pete in years it has an ACC team should be ok too. I think this league gets the Liberty Bowl a few years too in a back up situation too.

The bowl line-up isn't great but there are going to be years when the American's top 3 to 4 teams have a solid place to play.
This!!!^^^^. The bowl lineup would be just fine if we had a good bowl for our champ every year that's the problem.

This is another example of the different points of view. From the perspective of a school coming from C-USA, the AAC lineup doesn't look bad, but from the perspective of a Big East holdover, this bowl lineup is the pits of the world, as it is far worse than our Big East lineup, a lineup that those of us in the Big East constantly ridiculed as far inferior to that of other AQ conferences.

I mean, in this lineup, our BEST bowl is the BBVA Compass, which in our old lineup was the WORST bowl, the bowl everyone dreaded getting relegated to.

Exactly. Its like the guy said above---welcome to the G5. It sucks. And by the way, the BBVA Compass being the best bowl is a step down for the CUSA schools as well. Our top 2 bowls were the Liberty and Ticket City (New Years Day Bowl in the old Cotton Bowl). BBVA is similar to Ticket City but with a worse venue in a worse city with a worse date.

If we have a number one bowl (which we really don't), its probably the Military Bowl. It could have as high as the #7 selection from the ACC in a nice tradition filled venue with an interesting destination near many popular tourist sites.

Yeah right now I view the Military as the best bowl the AAC has. You could have a semi decent ACC opponent in one of my favorite stadiums to watch a game and near one of my favorite cities in the country. My only problem with that game is that shouldn't be the best game this league could pull off. It is what it is and what I hoped to hear from Aresco is some sort of realistic acknowledgement that none of these bowls are all that attractive for the champion of the league to go but that the league will work every year (whether through the bowls we have or trades/secondary market) to ensure the champ has an exciting place to go. Basically I'd have liked a statement that was still on the whole optimistic but acknowledged the reality that this lineup is disappointing compared to what he tried to sell was going to happen at the begining of the process.

I agree. Its a little scary to note that UCF would be headed to the Military Bowl this year as a reward for the season they have had. Looking at our new lineup through that lens is frightening. Our only hope is that SOS is more of a factor than it currently is. Fighting your way to the top of the AAC is far more difficult than being undefeated in the paper mache MAC. If not, the only other hope for a UCF type champ is that Aresco can work trades and backup slots to get a nice bowl.

Yeah this years UCF team is the exact type of thing that having no good top bowl option sets you up for. UCF has had a tremendous season. They've beat a top 10 team at the time on the road, beat Penn State on the road (even if down still not an easy accomplishment), could go undefeated in the league, and the only loss is by 3 to a top 10 SEC team and the reward for that could be Birmingham or the Military. Both of those would really be a punishment for a great season and not a reward. I don't particularly care if a 6-6, 7-5, or 8-4 team doesn't get an exciting bowl game, but I do care if a 10-2 or 11-1 champ doesn't.

Good point. Our AAC lineup for 2014-2019 is worse than the lineup C-USA has this year.

Heck, it's worse than the C-USA bowl lineup from 2004 when we left.

Great job Pirate, One thing, I bolded next years Armed Forces Bowl because you put the opponent as Army/Big 12. I haven't seen anywhere that the Big 12 is the official backup if Army is not bowl eligible. Did I miss that release or are you just assuming? 04-cheers

I finally got around to checking this out, and I threw up my dinner...

The only.important question I have is this. Will the Boca Raton Bowl be sponsored by Depends or LifeAlert?

If the Liberty is the 8th SEC pick and they happen to get 3 teams into the playoff they would need 10 teams to fill that spot. I could see that falling in our laps occasionally. Also the Big 12 only has 6 teams eligible this season. If they were to place multiple teams in the playoff they could have an opening as well.

I'd be surprised if the American gets the Liberty Bowl more than once over the next six years.

The Liberty Bowl is in an SEC pick pool with the Belk and Gator. Its number 5 in the Big 12 lineup. There is not a chance in hell we play in the Liberty Bowl. That was strictly a PR move by the Liberty to mollify Memphis fans and for Aresco to save face. That backup tie is worthless. The Indy Bowl backup has significant value and will provide a slot most years and will generally feature a P5 opponent. The Poinsettia Bowl has little value--but it could provide a slot in a nice location on occasion.
