Ohhhh, now it makes sense.
You went 7-1 and stayed home. Now you're mad that some folks are seeing a 2 Sun Belt loss team and are talking about them going to a bowl.
Now it makes sense.
Main reason why CUSA is nice as most teams bowl elig. will have a bowl and I think you guys are getting an extra tie in too next season right? That will help out...

WKU stayed home that year because they went 0-4 in nonconference and lost by 30 to Indiana State...
And their attendance was poor compared to some of the other teams that went bowling that year. I say some because FIU only went because of their success the previous year and proximity to St. Pete. Unsurprisingly they didn't bring many to that bowl.
UL and FIU were both 8-4 with UL having two OOC wins and FIU having three. stAte, the champ was 10-2 with two OOC wins. WKU, while at 2nd in the league, had the worst record of the four BE teams (7-5) and didn't win a single game OOC.

So being the first SBC school to go 4-1 in OOC games should play a role in getting a bowl over a ASU team that went 2-3 OOC this year? That should give TXST the edge over ASU also...right?
going by the way you laid it out no way a 6-6 ASU should go bowling over a 8-4 WKU or a 7-5 TXST

If ASU goes 6-6 we would have no argument at all about not going bowling. We're going to need to win our next two home games for sure to have a chance.

Can't believe that was even a question.

I'm not trying to make a case for stAte or TxSt but just pointing out some facts from 2011.
It wasn't just oh WKU was second and got left out. There were other factors that played a part. Bowls pit you against teams from other conferences and that year your team proved that they struggled with winning games outside of the SBC. Bowls also want to sell tickets and hotel rooms and WKU didn't show enough from their home attendance that year to prove to anyone that they could do that.
Bowls/ESPN also have to sell a good matchup to a national audience. So to average Joe college football fan a team with 8 wins is more appealing than one with 7. Throw in the fact that some of those wins came against schools outside of the Southeastern U.S. footprint that is the SBC and you can see why WKU was passed over. I wish it didn't happen because I'd like to see all SBC bowl eligible teams in a bowl, but you finished second in the league so there was no guarantee for you. Sorry.
