Buh bye. Adios. Sayonara. Auf Wiedersehen.

Given that the Spring game has yet to happen, I gotta believe that a message about potential playing time was delivered.

I might be misinterpreting you, but are you saying that Tuck might have been told he wasn't going to get much playing time this year? That's wild....I assumed he was one of a few guaranteed starters on the team with so many DL guys transferring/graduating.

I believe it was playing time AT ANOtHER SCHOOL communicated via meddling. NIL $$ is also a factor.

Does anyone know how JMU is doing in regard to NIL? I haven’t seen any numbers posted, not that the MC should necessarily do that anyway. I have seen some on here say our NIL collective is for “retention” and not luring new players (those lines get blurred I would think). I also remember a number thrown out of 300K we had, but that was a long time ago. Does the coach tell the MC the players they would like to offer $$$ to? The MC is always asking for money, which is fine, and they support the Sound Off podcast. But how does this thing work? Who does the offering of money for “retention”… inquiring minds

No idea how much money the MC has raised but I do know that we tried to raise 150K when Chesney came in and not sure that we got there.

In my mind MC needs at least 1 million a year to be somewhat effective for football and basketball and getting closer to 2 million is what is really needed.

As for retention that is the company line and from everything I have gathered is actually the case. I'm not sure that is really based on how we want it to work or it is just how it needs to work based on the dollars that we have at our disposal.

2024 Spring Football Portal opens up April 15
Obviously this portal this works both ways and we seem to be doing OK even though it sucks to lose productive players. This is the new world, like it or not (I don’t!). At the end of the day I root for the name on the front of the jersey. See you at the Spring Game! Go Dukes!!

Which makes me wonder if this current case isn't one where the person feels they need a raise so they do this and the MC starts upping the compensation. I saw a recent clip of an interview with Rex Chapman talking about when he was in college and how he would get paid whenever he wanted, but then when he decided he wanted to go pro and really get paid the offer came in at like $700k from the boosters which actually ticked him off. He felt insulted that they had the money all along and could've been paying him that already. He went pro, got drafted high (8th overall) and oddly enough his rookie contract came in under what he would've gotten in college in an era where nobody was supposed to get a dime. 07-coffee3

Hate to see our players hopping into the portal, but just have to trust that they know what is best for them. Good luck!

You can't blame a kid for chasing the money or making moves that might increase his chances of playing at the next level. However I can say that with every kid that leaves I have less and less interest in following JMU teams. I've already switched all of my donation away from the Duke Club and toward other areas of the university.

Since this is a sports message board you may want to enter the message board portal and join one that involves other areas of the University. If none exist, start one!

Feels like Tyrique may have wanted some more MC money but because of how well Bush has performed this spring, if they were happy to reallocate TTs funds elsewhere. It seems Chesney and staff have been REALLY high on Bush.

RE: 2024 Spring Football Portal opens up April 15
Hard to tell reasoning for his move at this point, but it will be really obvious once he lands somewhere else. If he ends up at a higher place than JMU then most likely being told in back channels to enter portal now and sign with them. However, if he ends up with a lateral move or goes lower than I think it comes down to where he was on depth chart and deciding to make a move because he was not happy. I would be surprised if he was pushed as we need depth so I think if he doesn't go somewhere at P5 level the move to the portal will be more about possibly not being a starter. As far as the folks that say he was guaranteed to be a starter so why would he leave that is a big assumption and may not be true.

We will know that answer or at least get closer to it soon enough once he lands somewhere else.

Great sound bite from HCBC, addresses it all quickly. Happy for him, LB and RB rooms took huge hits and seem better now, hope he cashes in, but also hope he knows what he’s walking away from. Sure sounds like to me you’re either in or you’re out, you may not have a spot to come back to.

Absolutely....Chesney is not holding a spot for him while Tuck explores his options.

See ya, good luck.....moving forward we will make the position group stronger.

We have a good thing here at JMU.
There is someone else out there that will appreciate it more.
His loss.

Just watched this. You mean Chesney's NOT going to take jabs at departed players through social media months down the road like the last guy did with Wells?

This.

IMHO, the athletic department's impact on the university the last decade, and especially the last couple years, is unquestionable. Players may be changing with more frequency, but there have been thousands of players over that decade, many in the most popular roles not being in that role for 2+ years. The only constant in this period has been the name on the front of the jersey (and Bourne). So I just don't understand how donors can see football and MBB transfers (especially in years of coaching turnovers) and decide athletics is no longer worthy of financial support.

Because college sports is not the pros.

These are “our” guys, we watched them grow up, walk the same halls we did, sit in the same classes, go to the same parties.

There is a direct connection with them. Something you don’t get with pro athletes who live in stardom.

And when they leave, they come back and tailgate, sing the alma mater, root for the next crop.

You think Elijah Sarratt will ever step foot on jmu campus again? No chance.

But Jalen green will. And he’ll be remembered forever.

I want Jalen greens. Not Sarratts and Mcclouds.

The greens at jmu will disappear under this new system. And that’s a damn shame

I know what you are saying, but if I could have one player back that moved on to the portal it was probably Sarratt. He was a physical beast.

Also Green had a Clayton Ritter senior season. I know Green had injuries but was never nearly productive as his senior year.

Sammy Malignaggi hits the portal. Understandable. RB room is full.

Sucks he left, but he was buried behind Vanhorse, Pettaway, and Adeyi. Maybe looking at max 2-3 carries a game and being primarily on special teams. Sucks cause he ran hard and with power. Always thought he should of gotten more carries last season after the run game went down hill, since he was always a consistent 3-5 yards, something we lacked last season

Part of the reason Green did not have much production is he just did not have as many snaps. He was mainly a rotational guy from 2019-2022, felt like he only played 20-30 plays a game on D-lines that were always stacked

Wow, that really sucks. My wife was a big fan of his.
Stuck it out through all of the injuries and now that he's healthy, he's gone.
Not surprised about Malignaggi, but I am about Vanhorse. I thought he really had potential to make a big impact on this team.
Oh well, his loss.
Next man up.

That one stings but I was really impressed with Baldwin and staff seems high on Knight.

Edit: Also thought Purdy showed he could be an effective short yardage back. A lot to compete with in your last year of eligibility.

Sorry to read this news. I was hoping he’d get a final healthy, full season as a Duke. Wish the young man the best.

This is kind of an important development. We don't have a big bruising back like Palmer on the roster. Purdy could be that guy in short yardage situations. Would especially be nice considering Morris isn't a running threat.

I definitely though Malignaggi and Vanhorse could contribute, but Adeyi and Pettaway looked great, and we could probably use Baldwin or Purdy as a short yardage back
