Edit: avg 31 mpg, 17.1 ppg, 31% 3pt , 80% FT

If he’s learned to shoot I’d love to have him back. Good defender and high motor. Absolute brick tosser when he was here.

RE: Basketball Offseason
Strange times we live in. Why even have the portal? Why not make it automatic that everyone with remaining eligibility is fair game during the applicable time period. If someone is not interested at all in transferring, he can just post on some designated site that he is staying and, therefore, can't be contacted. And since scholarships are for one year anyway. coaches can tell people they don't want back that they are gone.

He understands the defensive effort it takes to play here so I'd take him back. Doesn't answer the glaring question at PG though.

If he comes back, he's experienced depth. Something Freeman, Hayes, Bass and other wings just could/did not consistently provide. The league he played in was worse than the MAC, so don't expect those averages to translate ... but if he can provide half of that, w/selective 3-point shooting and more taking the ball to the basket, along w/defense, he's a plus.

Family on three, family on me....

ONE, TWO, THREE.....

Perhaps teams should cut out the family breakdown. I have a family. I have no intention of leaving them for greener pastures.

Best of luck to these young men in their endeavors. The truth is, This is a landscape that I simply cannot wrap my head around.

Call me selfish (and we don’t have all the info on this one) but as it lays in the surface, if I was Julian Sullinger, I’d be one pissed off Uncle!

He was in Cleveland during the MAC tourney.

RE: Basketball Offseason
Such is the life of a midmajor/G5 program. Bring in a fringe prospect, pour everything into developing that prospect and allowing them the opportunity to work through their limitations and find success early only to say "thanks but no thanks, I'm in to the portal." Same fringe prospect could sign with a major program out of prep and see nothing but pine, never get that chance to shine and then bolt because they're tired of sitting. So I guess we have to try and catch that talented youngster coming the other way. Four-year players at one program are long gone, and it's a true shame. And as far as NIL, from what I understand it is very top-heavy, the top 5% or so probably comprise 95% of the money, and the football NIL seems more lucrative than basketball, in that a fringe football player could earn more than a pretty good basketball player.

This would truly depress me. The way he was playing towards the end of the year, he was so fun to watch. He also needs to be careful. For decades that 6'5" bruiser has thrived in the MAC but been undervalued by bigger conferences. If he were to jump I could see him being a guy who gets stuck on the end of a bench instead of competing for a first team All MAC spot.

I think of this about anyone leaving this level -or even transferring within mid-major.
What are you going to get? Playing time.
What are you going to lose? About 10-20 college credits that will make it longer for you to get a degree. You're mid-major. You're not likely going to leave here, play pro, and get rich... Likely.

Unfortunately being 1st team all MAC doesn’t pay anything. These guys don’t care about that. It’s all about maximizing earning potential. VCD and Jalen aren’t going to the NBA so if they can move to another school that’s offering a bigger NIL package than KSU (which is most schools), they’re going to jump on it.

RE: Basketball Offseason
I agree with everything said above. As to what fallsdog said, the "family" is and has always been crap. I played organized sports, and I would guess many in this forum have. On every team in every sport that I was on there were players who couldn't stand one another, plenty of players who hated the coach, and no shortage of players who were more interested in their own stats and playing time than wins and losses. Maybe Senderoff creates more of a family atmosphere than the average college team. I have no way of knowing. I was a die-hard Pirates fan at one time, and even I cringed when that "We are Fam-i-ly" crap started in 1979. I suppose that it is possible for a family atmosphere to be true in any given year, but it is purely ad hoc with no carry-over to the next year.

Just curious, but for the NCAA Tournament, are we still operating under the, "support the conference" concept? Because I probably will not support the conference.

Mostly agree. One counter example I'll offer is in the article Huffman wrote about John Whorton he mentioned those guys all still have an active group text. It's probably the special teams where the 'family' concept is actually true.

RE: Family and NIL money
It shouldn't be forgotten by our players that the vast majority of our grad assistants and assistant coaches have been former players for last 15+ years, and that we have a very connected alumni base. I still think there is something to be said for your FUTURE earnings potential and your future in this game beyond limited playing days and marginal NIL prospects here when you consider that. Kent is special and has something special. Seeing lineups at the end of the season, seeing a 5-yr PG in Santiago, I hope we can continue to survive the age of the portal and see familiar faces develop over time. I know we all want that as fans.

For sure. I will be pulling for the team that Enrique Freeman plays for when they take on Creighton today. But mostly I am looking forward to watching the evening games from the comfort of my recliner.
