Judy MacLeod. 2 birds, 1 stone. CUSA is liberated from her rule. The Breakaway league is cursed by it.

Florida State AD Michael Alford would be a top choice. He is on top of it. Understands the new landscape, values success in all sports.
But forget we mentioned it. We want to keep him at Florida State.
Fascinating OP question.

B10 29%
SEC 29%
Jack Swarbrick 29%

Someone that understands both media and labor law/negotiations would be a must. That’s really the profile of all of the commissioners of the 4 major US pro sports leagues. A breakaway occurring is full-blown “this is a mercenary business” mode - traditional college thinkers need not apply.
Sounds like Brett Yormark before he joined the Big 12.
Yes - exactly. Essentially, having worked in college sports before is a *negative*. If there’s truly a breakaway, the leader essentially needs to be someone that is divorced entirely from the old paradigm. We’re talking at that point about NFL-like media and labor issues as opposed to smoothing over the old guard in college sports. Pettit and Yormark are from that mold - they worked in the media and entertainment business. That doesn’t just inform the revenue side where TV rights are so important, but the likely future expense side because labor unions are prevalent in that business.

Sure - it doesn’t mean every person from that mold would work, just as not every person that was a college lifer was either good or bad as a commissioner, either. I’m just saying that our natural inclination is to find someone known and comfortable - hence the references to Coach K, Nick Saban or even Oliver Luck - yet the whole notion of a breakaway is that it’s intentionally uncomfortable and a clear statement that whatever we have known college sports up to this point isn’t working anymore.

RE: Who would be ideal Commissioner for a Breakaway League
The commissioner for this sec/ b10 league will have little to no power, y’all’s new league will be controlled by the Marxist broadcasting company’s / Disney comes to mind
The selection committee is y’all’s in house boss telling you how to behave, what you can and cannot say, will have y’all’s refs wearing Pink tutus and sh!t like that
Thank god houston won’t be in that league
Good luck you gullible fools you’re being played

Sure - I think if we’re talking about people with broad experience inside and outside of college sports, Oliver Luck checks the boxes.
I’m less sanguine about high profile coaches. Whether people agree with Nick Saban or not, his statements on NIL last week seem like they’re from 10-15 years in the past on a battle that has been lost on multiple fronts and inherently can’t work in today’s world.

Yeah. Coaches would be horrible. These are people who focus on one thing 80+ hours a week.
