RE: Men’s bbl @ Delaware
We have a lot of players who graduate this May. Whether they come back and whether they transfer are two different things (see Mekhel Harvey).

You'd be surprised about how much I've heard some of our conference mates pay

I don’t think I would be too surprised. Four of the top five teams in our league standings this week don’t have to support football programs. If they have any NIL money it’s probably going to their men’s basketball team.

RE: Men’s bbl @ Delaware
I'd believe anything up to 30k/yr for a top performer at our bball only schools. The 100th best paid college bball player makes 87k/yr and that list features only schools from major conferences except for a few WCC and AAC.

I don't see any of our players being able to command anything in NIL, maybe Gabe at 10k max.

And here's why I don't think it matters: any player smart enough to know that a WM degree is worth more than the 40k career earnings they're going to make on NIL elsewhere isn't going to be tempted by chump change.

*just adding though that for purposes of debate, I'll accept that maybe that money does make a difference, but I really don't think there's a team that's going to offer any of this year's players NIL money, they would be lucky to get a scholarship elsewhere and presumably that elsewhere will be a lower rated conference. And again, not harping on the players individually, it's just they chose a NET 300+ team and don't have the resumes to move up. Sure, Nate, and virtually any starter from '14-'20 would not have stuck around in this age, but this year's team is not one of those teams nor were they recruited to one of those teams.

These guys chose to come to a bad program. Our recruits who left who were recruited when we weren't in a sorry state (Kochera, Wight, Covington, Lewis) have found varied results, the only one who is doing well at a better program is Kochera. Our current guys aren't going to find money or playing time at anywhere better, and may even struggle to find another program that will take them. Speaking of outdated models...Noah is a classic 4 that plays as a 5 with limited to no ability to stretch. Dane and Paulsen love that type of player (no one else does in today's game....maybe there's a reason Dane and Paulsen have losing teams...). Jack doesn't have the shooting percentages or playing time to pitch to another team. Gabe, Case, and Moss have something to offer but each have huge holes in their game and they've already tried playing in a higher league and had to drop down. I'm not trying to trash our team, I just suspect a) there might not be as massive an exodus as some seem to suggest and b) the best of the departures may end up still in the CAA as it's about the best they can do (Lowe, Moss, Gabe) and others will be lower or struggle to find another home without Dane's help--and Dane will push Holy Cross and American since those are where his connections are.

We/our team are just not at a level where NIL has an impact and none of our players are either.

This is wrong. NIL definitely has an impact at our level. If determines who we can and cannot recruit. If you don’t have any NIL money available then the pool of athletes you can recruit shrinks a lot.

The difference is we allowed it to happen. Delaware pleaded hardship, and we accommodated. Guarenteed if we called UD and asked, they'd reply "sorry, you need to man up"

Granted, that is what any other school would say. The question is whether Delaware would have the unmitigated gall to say that AFTER WE HAD ALREADY DONE IT FOR THEM. I agree with you that Delaware probably would have said that and wouldn't care about how hypocritical they looked.
They absolutely would. D1 wins are precious. It was so dumb when we did it and it's just not done on the D1 level. The only postponements I can ever recall are typically safety issues (water on the floor, etc) or malfunctioning equipment where the game can't proceed. It was so painfully obvious at the time that the "postponement" was never going to be rescheduled at a future date.

I said at the time it was a great sign that this was not a serious program.

Is anyone prepared to disagree at this point?

By SRS, this is the second-worst the CAA has been in the last 35 years, only ahead of last year.

This futility is *in spite* of the conference being gutted. It would be a laughingstock versus VCU, Mason, ODU etc.
