LOL before he went into portal some of you were still close to blowing your wad over the prospect of him playing here.

Soon as he hit the portal it is now thank God he's gone, we also messed up by having him.

We never HAD him. Stop it with the agenda. He never played a minute here. People like you want to rush to judgement on everything. You woulda had the Duke Lacrosse kids in the electric chair. Penny let the process play out and has come out looking good after it ended. Maybe one day Mikey will realize that Penny had his best interests at heart but in the end he wasn’t worth bringing into a team for only 2 months. Tomlin has been a struggle and he’s a player with BigXII and elite 8 experience. Look if Mikey wanted to start fresh next season I’d be all for it. That’s the difference in someone that doesn’t have an agenda

I was still okay with him playing and hoped he'd play if he were able to plea down the charges. I mean he will play somewhere, might as well try him out here. The statement was released because obviously he still wants to play here, and it started to look like he wasn't welcome. I'm sure if the "committee" got off it's dead ass and made a decision to let him play, at least starting next season, he and Taylor would suddenly be back on the Memphis bandwagon. We sure could use another quality guard this season after the loss of Mills. I'm still hoping this will happen. Indoctrinate him into a local church, let him claim he found Christ, and call it a day.

At the end of Penny's post-game press conference he said he stays in touch with Mickey. He said he'd really love to coach him. Said he would do it again, because that's what he's about -- helping kids out.

Context helps. Per Mikey's lawyer, the "not a priority" comment stemmed from Mikey contacting the school for an update, and not getting a response sometimes for weeks.

But more importantly, the lawyer said the reason Mikey entered the portal was that he still had to undergo a Memphis admin review, and they were concerned that he would not be approved to play next season, and they weren't willing to take that chance.

I don't think that would have been the result, but that is what the lawyer said.

I'm sure the stigma of being officially denied at a place like Memphis would have drastically hurt his chances with other schools. He is right, he had no choice but to make this move before it potentially really got ugly for him.
