RE: This is Gills one shot at doing the absolute best thing
Money corrupts the system. Pro athletes make money. It’s what adults do. Paying kids who by association concede that education is the purpose is what ties alumni to them. Take that away and what’s left? Will alumni continue to support a minor league team? Think of an NFL bottom dweller being located in Statesboro. More Walmart fans are the result as marketing shifts to the general public further separating universities from their alumni and athletes from their university. The snake eating its own tail.

“Did not pass” is not exactly correct, they decided to delay the vote. Wash St asked to push it while they and Oregon St finalize legal procedures related to the PAC.

The decision will come back around in a month or so.

Word on the street is that this new sub division will be at least voted on/talked about more seriously as soon as august. There’s no point in trying to play nice

I don't think the elitist group will be as popular as they think. P5 fans like to watch their teams destroy G5 teams and G5 teams like to watch for that perfect game that ends up with a victory for their team. The people are going to get tired of their playoff teams have 4-5 losses in their special division. And they're going to get tired of having 6 home games, like the rest of the world, instead of 7-8.

I believe that slowly people will look to regional matchups and rivalries over conference games 3000 miles away. The money comes from advertising and it will still be spread over all college football. No G5 fans are going to stop watching G5 teams to support these Frankenconferences. But I can see big school fans shift their interest away from the ratrace. Especially since the overwhelming majority of big state school fans did not attend that school or even any school. Indiana playing UCLA isn't going to mean much to the blue collar folks of Indiana for a conference game in Los Angeles, after a couple seasons, or Illinois vs Oregon, etc, and vice versa.
You really need to look at ratings. The G5 represents 15-20% of college football fans if that. They'd thrive w/o the G5.

There are plenty enough fans of SEC & Big Ten programs alone to keep a super league afloat and wildly profitable, but alienating 1/5th of your existing audience can’t possibly be a good growth strategy.

Pretty sure the ratings for an average G5 game shown on ESPN are not 1/5th the P5 ratings. I mean sure if you have one of the big games like Alamaba vs LSU or something it is. But, just a normal mid tier P5's playing each other? The gulf isn't that big.

Just looking at the bowls. Outside of the playoffs and BCS bowls many of the G5 matchups even beat out many of the P5 matchups. I know the Miami Ohio vs App State matchup beat out several P5's. And it's not like that was the only one that did. So not 1/5th there.
