Big 10 don't want to go past 20. SEC is not interested in in add anymore schools. The Big 12 could be the landing spot for the ACC. Clemson, Miami, Virginia and Pittsburgh could go to the Big 12.
Any rumors directing major programs from the ACC to the Big 12 are verifiably false. At the very worst, those schools would be using the threat of departure for any conference as leverage in discussions with the ACC.
FSU/Clemson/UNC/Virginia are all major players in the ACC and in B1G/SEC talk. A move to the Big 12 makes no sense for any of those programs. If Texas/OU were still in the Big 12, maybe there could be an argument for movement. But that isn't the case and won't ever be.
I want to dance on the ACC's grave as much or more than anybody, but I agree with this. A lateral move to the Big XII makes no sense for a top ACC program like Clemson at this point. I wish Clemson & FSU had made this move ten years ago, but it would never be worth considering now unless and until the P2 door is forever slammed shut to them.
The what-ifs of ACC schools leaving for the XII.
XII (10) + Clemson, Florida St, Louisville, Miami
ACC (10/11) + Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, South Florida
I still get ticked that the prior rumored Big 12/ACC merger never happened. You would have had a legitimate competitor to the B1G and SEC with the brands at the table. Texas didn't want to deal with the competition and got enamored with the "idea" of Notre Dame.
Although, the current structure of all the large brands in the B1G and SEC is more lucrative for those brands. So it is probably a better end result for FSU/Clemson/who ever.

Yeah I would have liked to see a Big XII with FSU, Clemson, Texas and Oklahoma for a few years at least. If there was a satisfactory conference home for FSU other than the SEC, that would be it. If that XII had worked it might have become the PAC predator and the conference that spanned the nation instead of the B1G, who'd be locked in the Midwest & NE with only the Mid-Atlantic ACC region to look to for expansion.

I never envisioned the PAC as weakling in that kind of environment though. They would have held the West with 12 teams and wouldn't have needed to expand further with their limited options and high criteria for membership. I looked at them as a lean conference with what should have been a high floor and huge geographic region of control. The three behemoths out East would still be fighting each other enough for the PAC teams to stand out and apart.

Locked On Big 12 have been calling for the four corner schools to join the Big 12 for a while. Drake works for ESPN's Texas regional. A lot of these Locked On these channels are more ESPN based.

lol he got fired for starting the rumor
Never knew Drake Toll worked for ESPN, although I do know that he work(ed) for the Locked on Big 12 Network. I wonder if "Locked On" is a part of ESPN...
Once Big 12 loses Texas and Oklahoma, it will be an inferior conference compared to ACC. I think even ACC loses Florida State and Clemson, ACC is better than Big 12. And I think every ACC school except FSU will stick together. Even FSU is 50/50 to leave ACC.

Yes, that is what I think as well. The others like Lock On Big 10, Lock On PAC 12 and so forth all said they work for ESPN for their region. The Lock On PAC 12 and Lock ON MWC could be merging as one.

The PAC12 guy is a lot more professional and does not do a modicum of speculation. Maybe he’s going to be the lead for the Big 12 next year, but Big 12 needs more of a basketball slant even during the football season.

Clemson would much rather be in SEC. They arent settling for another conference just yet.
I was about to say not so fast, but then remembered you were talking about Clemson and not Florida State. Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Clemson checks all the boxes for the SEC, especially culture. The only school who would potentially be opposed to it is undoubtedly South Carolina, and I'm sure they may welcome the Tigers into the fold if and when the time comes.
