It's possible he was, I don't know if he ever applied for a position. That said GP was a key assistant in the Don James era at Washington.

Pinkel was passed over and very successful at Toledo and Missouri.
Lou Holtz had a hand in screwing us over , highly recommending an asst at
ND that he wanted to get rid of.

Pinkel was passed over and had a very successful career at Toledo and Missouri. Lou Holtz had a lot to do with screwing over Pinkel
and KSU. He had an asst coach he wanted to get rid of. Pete Cordelli.
Holtz strongly recommended. Cordelli 3-30 in 3 years at Kent. One of the worst records ever for a program with the worst winning percentage
in D-I history. Lets hope this never happens again. 1-11 not a good start

BTW. Cordelli had earlier applied for Toledo job. He was passed over
for a KSU alum named Nick Saban

Supposedly we were going to get Lou's kid Skip to get him his head coaching job, but I believe the NCAA started sniffing around ND and Pete wasn't on the same page as Lou regarding the investigation, so Pete became the guy to move along from ND and Skip got the UConn head coaching job later on.

Remember the players' "mutiny" when Cordelli was head coach? That was the nadir of Kent State football. Some mistakes in hiring explains only some of the issue, though.

Totally agree Muskrat, the primary issue over all these years has been lack of $$$$$. No Admin has been willing to put capital into football .
This includes facilities ( easily worst in MAC) . Coaches salaries. Training table . Scheduling. Scouting . Training.
Frankly, some of the good teams we have had are a miracle .
Don James , miracle worker. Glen Mason 1987 team that beat Kansas and was 7-4 with a game at Pitt to end season and go 8-4. Bad snowstorm, Ironhead Hayward ran ball about 50 times and we lost , no bowl bid. Glen Mason off to Minnesota. Darrell Hazel in 2011. Team ranked in top 25 after beating Army and Rutgers on the road. Freaky loss to NIU in Ford Field kept us out of Orange Bowl. ( NIU went ). A true Miracle . Hazel bolted for Purdue.
Sean Lewis did it for awhile with smoke/mirrors and talk. Left for Colo.
Unless we commit money it will continue. Other MAC schools are ramping up. By the way…. Check attendance its awful. 9400/game avg. this year and that includes their exaggerated counts.

RE: NIU Thread
That's why some coaches have been advised not to take the HC job at KSU, it's a dead-end with no resources, I think this was also covered in one of the articles on Lewis when deciding on KSU. I'm surprised we have an indoor practice facility, and we've had it longer than most. If we didn't already have it we'd be the last school to not have one while Texas high schools have facilities that dwarf ours.

I still don't get how these teams consistently be eligible and we have to rebuild from bottom up. And I use had to get new coaches, Toledo has had to get new coaches, bowling Green has had to get new coaches, and we're back to a one win team. The schools are on the same playing level as we are. They're not Power Five. They have the same crappy revenue. How is it that Kent State can't match that?
AlphaFlash, that's a question that has been debated and discussed for decades, and I wish I had all the answers. This year, of course, the transfer portal played a huge role, but that's just one year. Poor coaching choices, I believe, played a role at times. Other than that, I'm at a loss. And now, of course, we have to realize that the portal will be a big factor - not just in getting good players but also in LOSING our better players!
And, if memory serves me well, didn't Kent State change the starting time of their final game in 1973 so as not to conflict with OSU-Michigan? And that 1973 team was their best team ever and ranked nationally!!!
Don’t you wish it was that easy.

So, Duke goes 16-9 in their coach's two seasons, and they lose their coach to Texas A&M. And Duke is P 5 (though certainly far from a top-tier P5). It's not just mid-majors with not much history that lose a coach after a brief tenure of modest success.

Now, that's the $64,000 question. I don't see it coming from anywhere.

Ok so frist we take our spoils from the money games. Obviously you can't be out there betting against your own team, so we throw it all down on Akron to lose each week. Honestly... It's like I'm the only one fixing problems around here.
