Will we score a touchdown? Wonder what the record is for fewest touchdowns in a 12 game season?

Yes and no. Unless you are family or work for our athletic department, absolutely no reason to watch this mess

It’s all a part of the plan…coach has been sandbagging all season and will break out all stops this Saturday.

I checked the NCAA stats - we're not last in TDs this season - 1.1 per game, next to last East Carolina is last 1.0 per game.

At least ECU doesn't have to sit out in this crap weather while all their fans are at a TV watching the arrogant a-holes of their state play.

Yes that is true. After beating down Auburn I'm wondering if NIU fans wish they had Kerry Kill back, I would sure like him at KSU, health issues and all.

I would think our attendance is under 1500 people. There will be more people in bars in downtown Kent watching OSU beat the cheaters!!

We didn't want him to leave, and I'm sure we'd take him back. Coach Hammock is a work in progress and not sure if he can be the guy. Kill is a proven guy.

How do you eat that sack coming up the middle? Should’ve been a safety. Valiant effort today, I guess we’re back to accepting “moral victories”. I hope this staff is able to find some guys in the portal that can build a competitive team around the few gamers we already have.

PS: they finally showed a replay and it sure doesn’t look like he stepped OOB. SMH, boy was that final play awful. Six seconds gives you enough time to get one quick one to the sidelines and OOB to give you room to run 1 final play. Seemed like the players didn’t enough know what they called there with a short pass across the middle.

Well, at least they came to play and didn't just phone it in today, like lots of 1-10 teams would have. Baby steps.

NIU is now a bowl eligible team... again. I still don't get how these teams consistently be eligible and we have to rebuild from bottom up. And I use had to get new coaches, Toledo has had to get new coaches, bowling Green has had to get new coaches, and we're back to a one win team. The schools are on the same playing level as we are. They're not Power Five. They have the same crappy revenue. How is it that Kent State can't match that?

AlphaFlash, that's a question that has been debated and discussed for decades, and I wish I had all the answers. This year, of course, the transfer portal played a huge role, but that's just one year. Poor coaching choices, I believe, played a role at times. Other than that, I'm at a loss. And now, of course, we have to realize that the portal will be a big factor - not just in getting good players but also in LOSING our better players!

And, if memory serves me well, didn't Kent State change the starting time of their final game in 1973 so as not to conflict with OSU-Michigan? And that 1973 team was their best team ever and ranked nationally!!!

RE: NIU Thread
This game was a pleasant surprise. Makes me think the players want to play for the coach. Kargman had his best game and maybe has to be in the picture for the starting job this off season. Who knows what the QB position will look like after transfers in and out, but Kargman, in a small sample size, ended the year with the highest passer rating for the season at 131.4 compared to Ulatowski at 116.5 and Alaimo at 108.3. I had all but written Kargman off but now thinking about it I probably shouldn't have. He was a highly regarded recruit who was supposed to redshirt but was forced into action last year. Although he's not a threat with his legs he did run the RPO reads well yesterday. He showed the kind of growth you would want to see from a guy in his second year in this system.

The WR position was a big concern for me at the beginning of the year. They lost 3 starters to the portal and added no notable transfers. If we're able to hold onto our top 4 I'll feel pretty good about that group going into next year. McCray is an absolute stud. Floriea is very talented and versatile. The fact that he was a complete non factor with Alaimo under center is an indictment of Alaimo IMO. I had higher hopes for Harris. He started hot but tailed off. Gardner looked solid as well. They could probably use another big receiver but this group appears to be pretty solid top to bottom with the true top end talent in McCray.

Other schools lose their coaches and have a plan in place to act swiftly since open season on coaches starts right before the portal opens and high school recruiting finishes. You have to act quickly!!! Then there’s what we did last year, drag the feet hiring the HC, the HC drags his feet announcing his staff, players bolt for greener pastures and recruits go elsewhere and then we get social media hype of some WR5 from a JUCO, a D3 walk-on, or depth player from an FCS school that nobody else wanted. Texas State has had a horrible program, brought in a new coach at the same time who flipped his entire roster like Deion Sanders and somehow they had their best record ever. The timing on it all was bad, but the coaching this season has been even worse as no one knows our identity and we regressed as the season went on, outside of yesterdays game which we couldn’t hold on.

I wasn't posting because I thought someone would have an answer. I know better. Just getting out frustration. I feel the big reason is Kent State doesn't know how to get out of the way of Kent State.

I was surprised they made a game of it and could come back from behind. I too had written off Kargman. I really hope the kid from West Branch can show us something in the spring. I think the kid they recruited from Buchtel could be an asset in the MAC.

Addressing the hiring issue, you can go back to not hiring Nick Saban and watching him build UTs program. I thought we should have hired Heacock after Hazel, he's done great as ISUs DC. But hindsight is 20/20. I have hope for Burns and I think the kids played hard for him. He made mistakes but I feel he'll learn. We really need to schedule more realistically in the future.

Wasn't Pinkel available once, also? I too hope Burns turns it around, especially since, financially, they have to keep him through his contract.
