I hadn't noticed yet but Tribe Athletics called to point out the price for season tickets
in the green chairback section has been reduced about $75 per seat from last year.

I'm glad someone noticed we are not attending NFL or Alabama games.
Price hikes for Zable have been unreasonable over the past few years.

I noticed that too. Remember that we have 6 home games also.

So Elon is the only home opponent that is a "long-time" CAA rival?

My how things have changed.

RE: Tribe Football 2024
We have four of six home games with teams within a 4 hour drive of Williamsburg - VMI, Hampton, Campbell and Elon. The other two are Furman and newcomer Bryant out of Rhode Island.

I think we will have a strong season of visitors this year. And despite the longer distance, I would bet Furman might bring the strongest contingent. It’s the best OOC match-up we’ve had in years at Zable.

Time for new rivals. 50 years ago we played teams like VA Tech, ECU, and Rutgers at home. ODU had no team and JMU was DIII. Things change. Time to move along.

In this vein - Elon is a great example of above, a new, budding rivalry for W&M. Nice academics, within 4 hours and so many similarities. It shows at the gate as well - below rundown on our match-up’s since 2014, their first year in the league:

2014: @W&M, 9,512. Tribe 17-7.
2015: @Elon, 6,285, Tribe 34-13
2016: @W&M, 10,021. Elon 27-10
2017: @Elon, 10,137. Elon 25-17
2018: DNP
2019: @Elon, 9,216, Tribe 31-29 OT
2020: Covid
2021: @Elon, 11,897. Tribe 34-31.
2022: @W&M, 10,803. Elon 35-31
2023: @Elon, 12,705. Elon 14-6

Average attendance over 10,000 per game. And the games have lived up to the rivalry.

We host this year in early November which will again be one of our biggest home games for 2024. I’m assuming (and hoping) the CAA has us on an annual scheduling rotation. It appears so

A very good example vs, say Bryant, which is not so much.

Agreed. Bryant is there strictly because of the New England members, particularly URI. With a 16 team league, there will always be members you have a distant relationship yet play only occasionally. I don’t expect Bryant to be a frequent conference game - we just happened to get them year one - much like Monmouth last year. Unlike Elon/UR/Hampton, members like Bryant/Maine/UNH/Monmouth will be sprinkled in - but that doesn’t bother me too much.

We seem to be locked with annual games with UR/Elon/Hampton/Towson. Maybe Campbell as well? That would be 5 of 8 conference games each year with the others rotating. My wish would be that Villanova also be on the annual list.

Agreed. Villanova would be a great annual foe. I'd much rather play them than Bryant/Maine/Monmouth/URI. I'm not really a fan of 16 member leagues.

RE: Tribe Football 2024
I don’t really mind it, 16 members, as long as there is a core of 4 to 6 games that have some meaning from a rivalry standpoint and are nearby. I think we’re getting there.

16 just seems to be the new platform for leagues these days - certainly in FBS and even some in FCS (Big Sky is close). Maybe that’s driven by media, cost containment, etc? I really don’t know that answer but it’s definitely the trend.
