Just to be clear I don't buy this at all right now, but according to their board they say the A10 deal only pays them 235k per year. Wichita gets a 30% share of the OG share of the AAC deal, which on average is about 2 million a year. I still don't think they'd say yes, but that isn't nothing.

I posted this in the other thread, the media seems to be much higher from the AAC but the other conference distributions are much higher from the A10, likely due to the NCAA credit distributions going heavily to the one's that own it. Overall the difference doesn't seem worth the extra travel financially:

Here's VCU's & WSU's most recent financials. Add up "Media", "NCAA Revenues" & "Conference Distributions" and you get 2.58 for WSU and 2.33 for VCU.

Thanks for that. Just to be clear until I see one of the 2 people who matter in realignment mention this I think it's fake. However, as an ECU fan to trade SMU for Army/VCU wouldn't be a home run it would be a walk off grand slam. With the massive military presence in the state Army games always were big draws in the C-USA days, and they would be again, and VCU would be a bus trip all sports and a massive draw in hoops. Of course I never bought Army joining the AAC ever, so in a world where they joined VCU doesn't seem completely impossible. COGS

I think the correct move here is to invite both VCU and Dayton. I don't see either one ever getting a Big East invite.

....and what is "hitman hoops media"? Is this a credible realignment source?

Apparently a Memphis fan and founder of Tiger Blueprint website. Maybe a Memphis fan can tell us how well connected they are.

Never heard of this "source."

I'm hugely skeptical.

Initially I was hesitant to post this, but I did some research and saw that it was getting quite a bit of play on some of the prominent message boards, including Ram Nation.

Hitmen Hoops Media, along with Bluff City Media, are sites dedicated to the coverage of University of Memphis basketball, which leads me to believe their "sources" are within the Memphis athletics program.

It's certainly not unsurprising the AAC would be in talks with VCU about potentially joining the conference for Olympic sports, like Wichita State.

Yes, I would much prefer such news is coming from Jon Rothstein or Matt Norlander.

The ram nation response is interesting too. The only other logical conference they would be in discussions with is the Big East

Agreed, and I just don't see the BE biting since VCU is a secular public university. Just not a good cultural fit, though they would be a great fit performance-wise.

Yes...and I don't really see Fox wanting the Big East to expand unless its with Gonzaga. Big East doesn't need anymore East coast basketball schools

I would love this move! I really hope it happens. From a fan standpoint I'd love to have VCU on our schedule regularly. Get Dayton next. Fill the AAC with crazy MBB fan bases.

If VCU ends up in the AAC this could be an opening for Iona to join the A-10. They'll certainly be pushing for it anyway.

College of Charleston is the school that's been rumored.

I think Charleston is happening regardless sometime around June 2024. The A-10 may want to get to an even 16 and add another New York school alongside Fordham and St Bonaventure. They were exploring going to 16 members a few years back and Iona were one of the schools in consideration.

Gotta think SLU and Dayton are offering Val Ackerman a BOGO deal or a similar discount in exchange for Big East invites.

Sadly, it seems like there would be little to no hope of the A-10 keeping it's unofficial (if declining) "mid-major plus" designation minus those three programs:

Davidson
Duquesne
Fordham
George Mason
GW
La Salle
Loyola (IL)
UMass (gone to the MAC with UDel?)
URI
Richmond
St. Bonaventure
St. Joe's

AAC could go after Dayton and Saint Louis as well. You get into two new tv markets, but ODU would still be good invite in the future. Their program is on the rise as we speak.

East

Delaware
Temple
Charlotte
East Carolina
Army
Florida Atlantic
South Florida

West

Rice
Tulsa
North Texas
Texas-San Antonio
Tulane
Navy
Memphis
UAB

I have to say I like the idea.

But at the moment I don't think UMass/UDel bring enough to the AAC TV deal to warrant inclusion.

It would definitely save both schools but I agree don't see the value in this move.

2024 is the make or break year for that designation. 15 teams and one bid the last 1-2 years? That's not a good trend. Getting rid/losing teams would be a good start.

Pick off the three NE members of the A10 with UMass.

Fordham enjoys being good at football but I'd guess they'd just join the Patriot League full time instead.

It was one bid last year and a really poor non-conference for the A-10. That was the first time that happened in a while. Should be back to multiple bids this year.
