We just cannot buy a bucket. Good looks are not going down. Down 3 with the ball, 26 seconds left.

Gotta make them pay for that mental mistake.

Good season ladies. Tough to lay an egg in the tournament, but the future is bright.

So was it a foul on the final 3 pointer? I could only get the radio broadcast at work and they seemed convinced.

That loss is beyond disappointing. Pretty much negates the whole season. No excuse losing to a 12 seed. THAT’S WHY you work to get that top 4 seed. Nylah Young was the 7th best free throw shooter in the country, over 90%, and she missed 4 today (6-10). Hopefully the team (including the coaches) learned something from this that they can carryover into next year.

Also, that last play, you couldn’t get the ball into the hands of a better 3-point shooter than Young who made only 2 or 3 all year???

It was blocked, hard to tell if it was a foul. But there were tons of other missed calls and dubious fouls. The worst may have been the call against Geddes on the inbounds pass right after her breakaway bucket.

RE: 2023-24 Women's Basketball Season
Watched Coach E’s postgame press conference. She was not happy. Her words said all the usual proper things but her face, her voice, her body language all made it abundantly clear that she was not happy. That’s good!! I want the coach to be just as pissed off as I am. That should spur some changes for next year. (As an aside, I have been watching a series about the history of the ACC Tournament (Sitting Bull has commented about it) and it is amazing how many winning tourney runs were set up by big disappointments the year before. Hopefully that will be the case with us.).

Coach’s To Do list:

1. Recruit some experienced 3-point shooters through the portal (a la Riley Casey).
2. Recruit an experienced big girl to control the paint and rebound. I understand Kayla Beckwith is returning, which is great, but we need another.
3. If Ruthie Montella and/or Madison Magee return then they need to get more playing time than they got this year (and I understand there were some injuries). Montella made the CAA All-Rookie team two years ago; it’s hard to believe that her skills have diminished so drastically that she never even plays. Magee also has some skills (she got 14 at UVa last year); at least you can count on her to shoot the ball.
4. Alexa Miskeska needs to hone her ball handling skills even more….or else Monet Dance will steal her starting job. (Honestly, it seems like the Tribe offense was at its best when both Dance and Geddes were on the floor at the same time; unfortunately, Dance played only 6 minutes). Mikeska also needs to score more and shoot free throws better.
5. Kayla Rolph needs to seriously hit the weight room. There were just way too many times that she got a rebound first only to have an opponent knock it loose or even rip it out of her hands.

At least Coach got a small dig in at the officials for the year-long grudge they appeared to have against the Tribe.

Look like great freshmen…but adding some experienced college players who could contribute right away would also be great. Explains why Montella and Magee “walked”…Coach needed the roster spots. Interesting that Marley Long is the niece of Jason Wiliford whose name has been mentioned in the Tribe coaching search.

Wingertzhan and Stevenson were moved out last year to bring in some of this year's transfers also. Coach E had several of Swanson's players to turn over.

RE: 2023-24 Women's Basketball Season
The CAAT loss to Hofstra continues to cost the Tribe. All four of the teams that had double byes got invited to postseason tournaments (plus, of course, 7th-seeded Drexel is going to the NCAAT). Stony Brook is going to the WBIT and Monmouth, Charleston, and A&T are all going to the WNIT. Can’t help but think that a win, and definitely 2 wins, would have gotten the Tribe a postseason nod. Coach E would certainly have accepted it, I’m sure, because it would have given more game experience and valuable postseason experience to the younger players like Geddes and Dance.

RE: 2023-24 Women's Basketball Season
Maybe there’s a hidden benefit to the loss. We failed to jump all over a lower-seeded opponent in the first game of the tournament. Shaver’s last team and Fischer’s first team did the same thing. Five minutes into those 3 games and we had dug holes so we couldn’t get out. Coaches need to understand that the first five minutes of the tournament are the most important five minutes of the tournament.
