RE: PAC update
I would not expect anything to happen until the ten schools with announced conferences in 2024 and the two not announced yet, are ready to negotiate terms. Nothing will happen until then. The Pac-12 is essentially in a court ordered stasis, not able to do anything but day to day operations, with none of the schools in charge of anything (needs a 12-0 vote for anything, no meetings allowed).

And yes, this is about a financial settlement. Revival of the Pac-12 chatter from OSU and WSU are attempts at leverage, not anything solid. A few really desperate schools like San Diego State may push for this as well (I don't think any other schools beyond SDSU are in the least active on this project), but there is not a whiff of media company interest even rumored.

Eventually all of the Pac-12 schools will work out a deal. It's going to be very complicated. The legal actions suggest the liquidation sums will vary school to school.

The Big 12 has no more TV money to dish out.

RE: PAC update
I wonder does the back and forth between ESPN and Washington State mean they won't be willing to offer a lifeline in the form of a new Pac.

“Lease”. That’s a good term. And I think it’s going to be used more and more, while tv contracts get shorter and shorter. I can’t see an actual promotion/relegation system working. But can see something like it in slower motion with caviats and exceptions happening.

So if BigXII “lease” 6 western teams for easing conference travel purposes, and to make the current 16 maybe $1 or 2 million per year each on top of the smaller conference travel budget.

Currently 5 western time zone teams in BigXII. Add 6 more so there’s 11 west and 11 east. These 6 would be temporary with possibility of permanent. A “lease” until waiting to see what happens with ACC.

I feel that Stanford and Cal are on a “lease” until the BigTen come calling. It has a temporary arrangement feel, I don’t see this as good for them and the ACC long term.

The reports is that BY is chomping at the bits for ACC schools, and not the PAC 2.
