Good question Fanof......The rivals board used to be very active, but we fought more with ourselves than the other guys and it basically went to pot....As on here, a lotta folks are more interested in your political and private life than your uSm background. (Hey! I go back so far I remember when we used to play youse guys in Little Rock!)

I go back a ways as well.
My father remembered those days better than me. He would always (mistakenly) call you guys Mississippi Southern.
Been to Jonesboro many times, my wife has family there who have a business in the Industrial Park.

By the way, Mississippi Southern College had a great "small college" pedigree---at a time "small college" had a different meaning than today: we regularly played the likes of Memphis, FSU, USL, while also scheduling Bama, NC State, Kentucky and Georgia (actually played the Bulldawgs in old Memorial Stadium in Jackson MS, where a CAPACITY crowd of 30,000+ watched MSC beat the Zeke Bartkowski-led GA team 14-0). MSC won 2 small college national championships in the 50's, never had losing seasons, and actually applied for membership in the ACC.

But alas, membership was denied due to academic and political ramifications, and the "welfare" monies SEC schools Old Mrs and MSUcks began receiving rose and rose and rose while uSm struggled for relevancy in a small, piss poor state that really couldn't support 2 SEC schools, much less another Div 1 program.

That's the Cliff notes version, have a nice day!04-cheers

My dad always said Mississippi Southern and my dad was about 12 years younger than 49's dad if I remember right.

Tons of respect for USM at least among the old heads around the program, and the now old heads who didn't used to be old.

Always have to keep in mind college athletics are not a meritocracy.

Really need a trophy or name for the game. I still prefer battle of the crossroads since both of our stadiums are on US 49 and Robert Johnson sold his soul somewhere on US 49 between our schools.

Battle of the blues. It fits the situation.

USM fans are due. That is a fact.
Hall can turn this around with help. He has to let somebody help. We need an OC, or break the mold, and put the HC in the press box so he can focus on playcalling exclusively.

It's not working.

When it works, it's Gore breaking records in bowl games. But then it's train wreck when we play better defenses.

Hall needs to start delegating more.

This. New head coaches have the Superman complex. They think they can do it all. Very few can and most realize that pretty quickly. Whether Hall will is still in question.

Another interesting tidbit about Miss. Southern: Our 1958 "small college" National Champs went 9-0, and there were actually discussions with the Sugar Bowl about MSC playing National Champs LSU in the '59 Sugar Bowl.

LSU eventually decided they wanted nothing to do with it----SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!!!! 04-cheers

That, and from what I see, he’s struggling a bit in the assistant-to-boss transition. To me, the repeated unforced errors and the strikingly dead sideline last week show a lack of leadership and accountability. There’s a huge difference at this level between being a coordinator joking around with the players in the film room and being the HMFIC who has to be the a**hole sometimes.

What you said and I’m saying could be different symptoms of the same disease.

Just think...right NOW upstart Georgia State has a much better football program than uSm (not to mention at least 5 other SBC schools)....I watched a Panther team last night that had a MOBILE QB that kept Coastal's defense off balance, the offense looked like a well-oiled machine and the team seemed to go all in on the system their HC has devised. uSm shows me none of that...

Sure, it's still early, uSm may win 9 in a row and GSU may lose 8 in a row...but...not where things stand right now.

I may still have gold colored glasses on, but I expect Southern Miss to win this game by double digits.

Depends which QB we play. If Shrout plays all game you could win by 14-20.

I agree. Maybe folks in press box are relaying info to him for him to call plays but thats no way to do it. He certainly can't see **** being 5'6 standing on the sideline calling plays. If he was 7'6 he still couldn't see good enough.

If the offense wakes up, things may be different, but it's hard to have confidence going forward at this point.

Welcome to SunBeltbbs. Good luck to USA's closest neighbors today versus the Red Wolves of Arkansas State.

It doesn't matter what Hall calls with that offensive line. Those guys are horrendous in pass pro, and slightly average as run blockers. Southern Miss offensive line is really big, but painfully slow of foot. USM will have the same offensive issues until they are able to re-tool that Oline. They really need to hit on a few juco or portal linemen. Tackles and guards.
