RE: Viewership Streaks: Can Colorado have a 4th week of over 5M Viewers? (updated)
Looking at that list, the top 11 games each had at least one of the 20 teams that have dominated the top of the ranking the last half century. They included 14 of those 20 teams with matchups of those teams being the top 3. Washington was #17 after dark vs. Cal, UGA was #18 on ESPN2 vs. UAB, Nebraska was #20 vs. La Tech on BTN, Miami was #26 vs. Temple on ESPN2. Florida and Tennessee were on the SECN and not rated.

It’s incredible. Colorado now has 4 of the top 7 rated games this season, including the only game with over 10 million viewers. I stopped watching the game early in the second quarter because it was so lopsided…but Deion is attracting another type of fan.
The article from SMW does say that NBC doesn’t bundle streaming viewers into its total…so OSU @ ND had a total audience of 10.6M.

That's amazing. 35-0 at halftime and they still had 10 million. They beat Ohio St.-Notre Dame.
And they were opposite an Alabama game and another Pac game with UCLA-Utah.
The OSU-ND game was a nail biter, and Alabama was playing #15 Ole Miss. CU-Oregon was big, despite the score line. No reason to think that next week won't give us another 10m or so with USC coming up. Some will watch to see if it's another beatdown, some will watch b/c they're CU fans desperate for redemption, some will watch just b/c it's interesting, but...people are going to watch.

RE: Viewership Streaks: Can Colorado have a 5th week of over 5M Viewers? (updated)
Colorado-Oregon averaged around 10 million viewers. I'd have to assume fans tuned out and switched over to Mississippi-Alabama once it got out of hand (I started watching Colorado-Oregon and switched out, the Phillies were playing and I did see parts of Mississippi-Alabama as well).
I don't think there's any doubt USC-Colorado gets at least 5 million and probably closer to 10 million. The fact that the competition is weaker (Clemson-Syracuse on ABC, Florida-Kentucky on ESPN) helps USC-Colorado's case as does Big Noon Kickoff being in Boulder ... again.
In Week 6, Colorado-Arizona State will be on Pac 12 Networks and they don't normally release viewership numbers so the streak will unofficially end there. I don't even think five million people actually have Pac 12 Networks

You mean Kliavkoff's suggestion that Colorado's new coach would boost viewer interest?
Haha, yes.
Didn't he go even further than that and say that it would have a positive effect on their upcoming media deal?

I would be VERY interested to see the unofficial PACN numbers from week 6. Does anybody doubt that it will be the biggest PACN game in history? Maybe Comcast will get all their money back, after all.

I think at this point, one has to wonder if 2023 Colorado might go down as one of the most watch teams in history.

He did say that, and despite mocking from many corners (including this one), he was right. If Kliavkoff could have dragged things out until week 2 or 3 of the season, then things would be looking quite different. Perhaps ESPN would have even come back to the table with something in the Big 12 ballpark.

I am really curious about how the Colorado - USC game will rate. On one hand, they are playing USC.
On the other, there's no way to know if the shellacking by Oregon has taken the bloom off the Deion rose, or not.

I dunno, ESPN seems to have moved on, apparently the most important thing going right now is Travis Kelce banging Taylor Swift.

Yeah ... people watch fireworks displays, but they also gawk at car wrecks.

It's still going to get high numbers. Historically, USC has been the national FBS team for Black Americans. I still think a larger than thought portion of Colorado ratings come from Blacks with no connection to FBS football and are in on the Sanders family.

I would need some evidence for this. Maybe on the west coast? Because I don't know that I've seen this anywhere east of the Rockies.

What? Surely, LSU or Miami would rate higher in that demographic.

Why should it when LSU still has neighboring Southern in it's city and had their first black player in 1971, 48 years after USC's first. And Miami? They weren't good until 1983.
USC had a generation of RBs on TV, especially a Rose Bowl, from Garrett, OJ, Cunningham, Charles White to Marcus Allen. Later, the Pete Carroll era revived them.
Honestly, your other comps are non-SEC blue bloods like Ohio State, OU, Penn State.

ESPN wrote an interesting article about this the other day. The effect is real, though anecdotal at this point without specific, hard evidence of viewership broken down by race.

I'm curious to see what the ratings are for this week. I think that anything from 3m to 11m is in play right now.

Heh, I said 3-11m, it was 7.24m. Probably should have tightened up that range a bit.
Utah-OSU, a ranked v ranked game with Pac title and perhaps CFP implications, pulled in 1.28m. What would CU-USC have pulled without Deion there? 2m? Less? And CU made a game of it, too, which surprised a whole lot of people.
