Driving slow in the fast lane, while acting lost making erratic lane changes. It’s a full time job down here. No matter what time of day or year. They come down here just to clog up the roads

Honestly, I think down here and Columbia has some of the worst driving I've ever seen. They are neck and neck.

You've never been to Memphis. 3 times this year, I got held up in Freeway traffic because people were driving the wrong way on the freeway during 8am rush hour.

South of the Border has been killed by the beaver that is 30 miles down the road. I mean I would rather buy a brisket sandwhich and jerky, then a half dead lizard and an open pack of Marlboros.

Riding through South of the Border is about as depressing as it gets.

It always seemed dead to me long before Bucc-ees. Maybe it’s good but I’ve never been a fan.

"The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that Horry County, which includes Myrtle Beach, had 383,101 residents in July 2022, a 9% increase from 2020 and 42% growth from 2010. The county saw a 48% rise in permits issued for single-family homes between the 2020 and 2021 fiscal years."

It's interesting that 9 (over a third) of the Top 25 Fastest Growing Places in America are in Florida.

The Myrtle Beach MSA is Horry County. The Myrtle Beach CSA also include Georgetown County and Brunswick, NC.

Myrtle Beach is an island so there is limited growth potential in the actual City of Myrtle Beach, but they are trying their darndest to put housing on any green space. Most of the growth is outside of Myrtle Beach.

Update: Brunswick County has been moved back to the Wilmington MSA where it should be. Brunswick County is the fastest growing county in North Carolina. That will make a big dent in the growth of MB MSA in the future.

This report is referencing Horry County's growth. Horry is the fastest growing county in South Carolina. Brunswick or Georgetown counties wouldn't have anything to do with that.

I also believe they should be back in Wilmington MSA, that didn't make much sense to me.

Myrtle Beach isn't that bad. It's always been a shitshow on the oceanfront during summer at night time. Hell, the week prior to my senior week in 2009 a high school senior was abducted. I was asked by the news people if I was concerned. Obviously I wasn't.

Point is, it's not that bad and 99% of people on this board aren't going to be out of their home past 6:30 PM most nights anyway, so what does it matter?

I vacation for a week every year in Hilton Head. Not everyone can afford Hilton Head. Don't know anything about Topsail. Besides, neither one of those has the amount of attractions as Myrtle. Especially if you have kids. It's not even close.

Depends on the activities you’re interested in I guess.

The question is moving to or investing in a beach property, MB wouldn’t be my first choice.

There are so many smaller neighboring beaches in the area that are so much more relaxed. It blows my mind why so many people visit that particular notorious section of the beach.

They've have some plans to revitalize the downtown area but until that happens there are so many better options in the area if you're just looking to enjoy the beach.

Agreed, Surfside, Garden City, Murrells, and a little further down in Pawleys are all better options if looking to enjoy the actual beach.

For sure. You either go North Myrtle, or you go south to all mentioned above. Pawleys Island is a favorite, as is Litchfield by the Sea.
Garden City is partly in Horry and partly in Georgetown counties, and great for families.

Murrells Inlet is where the good eats and times are.
Just ate at Wahoos this evening.

Hitting up Crab Catchers in Little River, just north of North Myrtle tomorrow. But spending a little time in Pawleys earlier in the day.

There's a ton of new, higher end constructions down here recently for sure.

I did find the Marshall breakfast spot in North Myrtle!
Golden Griddle on Main Street.
