Yes? I would expect a press release at the bare minimum. Most other schools announce contract extensions for those positions, and they can even be a source of fanfare for the fanbase. Adding a few years onto someone's contract and trying to keep it a secret tells me they know it's an unpopular move and they don't want the blowback.

Rightly or wrongly, this is how its been handled for years. I doubt it has anything to do with perceived unpopular moves.

If people are going to find out anyway, they may as well announce it and avoid the additional negative perception from trying to keep it low key.

If it were considered good news there is PR value and fan good will to be had by making it a big announcement and celebration. Everyone is excited and happy to lock up a winner. Thankfully its a short extension and the buyout drops each year. If the program is still in shambles in 3 years Id think he'd have to go or at least be moved to just being a fundraiser.

Fans should not have to wait three years. We have already waited 11years.
Hemphill will regret this undeserved pay increase. We are already losing fans. Going up on family plans will lose more fans. Make a move and put Wood, in charge of fundraising.

I have already waited 11 years, with the paying portal transfers, 3 Moré year’s would be a miracle!

For the last 10 years, Wood has brought all revenue sports down in value of talent. His biggest asset is fund raising. The problem is you can fund raise but the key word is winning and showing ODU as a top mid major power. With hiring BT and a new assistant AD, money seems no problem, especially since Wood got a big pay raise and extension. Now I know you have heard this before but something in this morning’s VP caught my eye. JMU the raising power in basketball teams, we always beat like W&M has now given their women’s head basketball a 6 year extension and a total of 6.2 million. Winning means everything!
