Yep, that's who first came to mind for me. They've been rumored to move up for a few years now and don't have football which fits the criteria above.

If its not someone as obvious maybe Lincoln Memorial but that's a shot in the dark. Not sure they are interested in going D1 with the amount of success they have in Division 2.

Lincoln Memorial was a name when Josh Schertz was there. With the stud coach gone and administrative change right before it, it’s likely never in the cards…but the Railsplitters and that iconic mascot would be a welcome addition.

That said, I doubt there is any appetite to move up. And even if there were, D3 to D1 is too big a jump in one fell swoop.

Problem is that St Thomas was kicked out of their league. The Liberty League isn't going to do the same to RIT. I could see them as an ECAC hockey school well before joining Roberts Wesleyan in D2, much less in D1 (went to school and was a sportscaster at Brockport so know the area well.)

They're already D1 in both men's and women's hockey. I'd like to see them play men's lacrosse at the D1 level as well. If it were possible to play more than one men's sport at the D1 level while still maintaining D3 status, I'd be happy with that. Unfortunately, NCAA rules don't permit that.

Quite aware they're D1 in hockey considering I was living in town when they made the Frozen Four. The big thing that helps RIT down the road is that they don't have football so there's no need to fund more women's scholarships. Because of this and the size of the school, they would be a good fit in America East.

Tampa was D1 until early 1970s when Abilene Christian and CSU-LA left D1.

California should make Cal Poly-Pomona as the flagship for the new system in the state. They would be like the Texas Tech in California. Big West could expand with San Francisco State, Cal. Poly -Pomona, Cal. Poly-Humboldt and Hawaii-Hilo/Hawaii-Pacific/Chaminade that way you can play 4 Hawaii teams in winter sports in one trip.

All I think are possible targets to try and get to move up to D1. Some of these schools do have better facilities than schools in D1 already.
