Can I have "quotes from January" for $600, Alex?
When the deal gets finalized everything up to that point is then moot. The PAC has been attacked by another conference and people that carry their water for months now. Some PAC presidents have felt it necessary to make comments to defend their conference. But, any deadline is being imposed by those who would like to see the PAC dissolve.
Now we are hearing that the PAC schools are in agreement in principle in signing a GOR. To me that means the media deal is getting close to being finalized. One PAC president in early May said he thought it would be done in 6 weeks, that would put it mid June. Of course, any belief that the PAC will stay together and have a decent media deal is swimming against the tide on here. People are so emotionally invested in seeing the PAC dissolve that it is rather comical.
BY just went to Memphis. Last I looked Memphis was neither in the PAC nor is it in the Pacific Time Zone. I'm pretty sure that if he could get 2-4 PAC schools Memphis would not be in consideration..
The B1G is a P2, they do what they want. Everyone else except the SEC just has to scurry for cover when their eye turns to them.
Pretty sure he's talking about the Big 12 there, not the B1G.
There's no way he could be talking about the big 12. The big 12 is no threat to the Pac. Kliavkoff even said a few months ago that he wasn't sure if he was going to go shopping in the big 12. The only Conference that has actually "attacked" the Pac is their supposed friends the B1G. I'm pretty sure that we can all agree that gutting USCLA out of the Pac was an "attack". Or perhaps he thinks that was just a disagreement among friends, while the big 12 taking calls from disgruntled Pac schools is an attack? It's all so confusing to me.
The B12 has actively pursued some PAC schools. They leak information to the media to make it appear the PAC schools will get screwed in the media deal. If that isn't attacking another conference, I don't know what is.

RE: Pac 12 members have agreed on terms in Grant of Rights
So they've agreed to everything in the Grant of Rights, except actually signing a TV deal? Which is by far the most important aspect of the grant of rights?
Seems like a largely meaningless symbolic act, TBH. The only thing that might matter a little bit is that they've presumably come to some sort of agreement about what the revenue distribution will be, if they ever actually sign a TV contract. Well, that, and this indicates that if they ever actually sign a TV contract, it will include a Grant of Rights.
But the bottom line is that it is still unclear if they will ever actually sign a TV contract.

They have an idea what the final numbers will be but it isn't finalized yet. So, the agreement of the schools to sign a GOR is dependent on the deal being finalized with the numbers similar to what they have been told. Both deals have to be signed concurrently.

Have you ever stopped to wonder -- if things WERE going badly, if there WERE doubts about the negotiations .... would they be telling the San Diego STate people that?
