Our (App's marching band) uniforms were completely black. Hat, shirt, pants, shoes. All black. It was miserable. Worst experience I've ever had at a football game.

This is why our 2nd deck on visitors/student section side is always empty. Sun in your face and it’s 105°. Really wish we could get some form of a cover similar to Washington’s and Baylors. Would look funny though, home side doesn’t need it is shaded by suites by like 1-2pm.

Having lived in Fayetteville, NC, Columbia, SC, and the last 25 years here in Atlanta, I thought I knew what hot felt like.... But nothing came close to the first game of the season in the newly expanded (to 100K+) Darrell K Royal stadium on the campus of UT. September 4th, 2021, Texas hosted Louisiana. It was the first season under Steve Sarkisian, so Longhorn optimism was high, and The Cajuns came in ranked #16, so the place was packed. My Nephew who goes to UT got us great seats; the only problem was they were on the sunny side of the stadium... It was 97 degrees by the 3:30 kick, with not a cloud in the sky, so we baked. Plus being the first game of the season, they hadn't worked out the "concession inventory" math yet due to the expansion, running out of most beverages by halftime. We left in the middle of the 3rd quarter EMS, and Police were everywhere attending to those affected by the heat.

Yeah DKR can get pretty hot as well. Cousin same age as me went to UT so I’ve been to a few games there, didn’t bother me in college but in early mid 30s now it definitely would. Bobcat stadium is 31 miles south of DKR.l so I like to think it is just slightly hotter ha.

DKR’s “student-sunny-side up” is unbearable for the reasons already cited. I don’t understand why the early season games can’t be scheduled as night games…other than the high-rollers like to party hardy early, and really don’t give a burrito about the students frying. It’s truly an unnecessary health risk starting games with the sun and temps at their most extreme.

Nobody at your school (or any other school) is picking when the games start. That's all on the TV partners.

Well, one thing seems certain. More change is coming and it's happening sooner than later.

As I said before, with MT's poor leadership at the moment we're not really attractive to anyone (except the MAC apparently). But I do know the one good decision our administration made was not joining the MAC. If these moves do play out creating more dominoes, I will have no problem admitting I would welcome a chance to return to the Sun Belt. With the schools the Belt lost and then eventually added, MT is a better fit for the Sun Belt now than the AAC. It's kind of like how FSU and Clemson are a better fit for the SEC than the BIG. MT is a better fit in the Sun Belt than the AAC. I really don't even see a point in C-USA existing anymore.

You all got the short end of the stick this go-round. Just like Marshall, Southern Miss, UAB and UTEP did the time before. It's all part of it I guess, you win some and you lose some.

I think in hindsight, it was probably wise for your leadership to say nah playa to the MAC, even though WKU fans were upset.

CUSA has the potential with the recent adds to be something but right now they'll need to build on what they have.

I’d like to see everyone gets capacity closer to USMs, UL, and UMs. Like 36k-42K. UL is already at 41k if I’m correct and going up soon. Like to see USM add some more suites above grandstands (both sides) and maybe a small bowl on open endzone to get closer to 45k. Marshall is close at 38k. My bobcats are doing endzone complex but that won’t do much for seating. But we need wining product so demand for seats goes up to justify expansion.
Surely JMU has plans to expand the small side similar to new home side.

ECU also works with their 50k capacity stadium.

Let’s also get baseball stadiums all up to 4K minimum while we’re at it.

Marshall is contracting rather than expanding. The plan is to take out the endzone bleachers, which are uncomfortable, ugly, and rarely filled, and push people more towards sideline seating. The endzone will then house a large scoreboard (we’ve heard anywhere from 3rd to 20th largest in the country), a party deck including a biergarten, much needed restrooms, and potentially additional box seating.

ODU has an ancient bleacher section in one end zone. Something needs to be done with it. In a time of shrinking attendance for football nation wide, something like what you are describing makes a lot of sense to me. Probably lots cheaper than traditional seating.

Yeah but our overall seating capacity is already low. We take those out we're at like 17-18K but would be able to go higher with standing room I suppose. I like the idea, if we could do it along with an upper deck on the east side I think it'd be ideal. bowling in the entire thing would look nice but would probably be more expensive that just putting a scoreboard beer garden type area the horseshoe wouldn't expand anyway, just make look nicer.
