If that’s snake oil, please rub that sh*t all over me.
But...but...but...Fedora didn't win 12 games in 2011 "the right way".

No, see the "snake oil salesman" comment by the poster above.
I saw that... I'm still confused, is it because we signed Juco guys? I mean that's how you get experienced players to fill gaps...

RE: Predict their Record: Southern Mississippi
Some people didn't like Fedora simply because they were so against Bower being asked to retire. Fedora came in and was uber confident / cocky, good looking, hair all spiked with gel, pounding Red Bulls, and some people just didn't care for him at all. He did not really pander / cater to the old good ole boys club of boosters as much as well, and some people didn't like that. He also put all of his time and effort into offense and the defenses suffered, and some people didn't like that. I remember being pissed at how bad our defenses had gotten, when we were used to great Ds under Bower. However, the man put on a heck of a show and gave us our best season ever! Hard not to say he was one of our best coaches in history.

I'm sure if Hall was to win every game this season minus 1, bring home a SBC title, and get us to a NYE bowl, people would find a reason to complain.

Maybe the poster who called Fedora a "snake oil salesman" can clear that up for you.

We blasted music during practice, prioritized offense over defense, spread it out instead of trying to control the clock by running between the tackles like real footbawl teams do, and didn’t play 4 SEC teams—5 of them on the road—every year.
That’s why we replaced the “cheerleader” who coached “soccer in pads” with an old-school DC from an SEC program. Conference championship & Top 20 finish be damned, we had to get the train back on track.
The over “correction” drove it right off a cliff.
Somebody wrote an excellent article on the whole thing years ago, but I’ll probably never find it now.

I gotcha HP... I knew Fedora had people who didn't like him, but never heard him called a snake oil salesman.

Possibly this one (link)
An excerpt, which addresses the issue:
Normal American football — the same thing Ellis Johnson called “the right way.”
After he lost his eighth game, Ellis Johnson’s radio call-in show received a call from aging former Southern Miss coach P. W. Underwood, who is beloved in Hattiesburg because he played for Southern Miss and coached at Southern Miss, even though he was the only Southern Miss head coach between 1930 and 2012 to end his career with a losing record.2 I won’t repeat all the details of Underwood’s phone call, because they came from a place of passion for the university I love, and because I, too, as a Southern Miss fan and alum, feel good feelings about him. The point is Underwood spoke badly of the coaching style of Larry Fedora, decrying his offense and his teams’ lack of discipline, while praising Ellis Johnson for doing things, of course, the right way.
To Underwood, as to Johnson, there was something noble in Southern Miss’s 2012 failure — something that made it a more notable accomplishment than winning 12 games and coming within an upset loss of a Sugar Bowl berth in 2011. In fact, after just about every one of the Golden Eagles’ 24 losses, as they continue to live their post-2012 dystopia, you can find a fan or two on the message boards lambasting Fedora for padding his win total in 2011 with a weak schedule — even though half those games were against bowl teams, and one of them was a road game against an ACC conference team that finished with eight wins. When these fans say “weak schedule” what they really mean is the schedule didn’t include any road games against the SEC’s elite: it’s better to lose on the road at Alabama than to sweep both games of a home and home series with Virginia.

Let me clarify that I don’t think Fedora was a snake oil salesman, but I’ve found that most I know who love Hall hated Fedora and believe he was.

So you don't think that Fedora was a snake oil salesman, but you said "Hall’s a bigger snake oil salesman than Fedora." Hmmm. So why use the analogy?

Fedora taking a island vacation on the USM dime on the way out the door, rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Most fans wanted to play and beat a Penn State team, but Fedora went to the islands on a vacay instead.
He and Gianinni screwed that decision up royally!

As I said on the Southern Miss board here on csnbbs. I think we go 6-6. A little bit tougher schedule. A lot of new things on the team including the qb. I still don't really know what a proper Hall offense looks like. Just too many unknowns.

I went with 5-7. Wins over Alcorn, stAte, TXST, ODU, ULM. I hope I'm wrong about FSU, Tulane, and/or Mississippi State.

I think it will be 7-5 on the back of an improving offensive line and one of the best backs in the league in Frank Gore.

He’s already put out the dumpster fire. Good with me.
BTW, back to the poll, there is no place to vote ‘don’t have any idea’.

I liked Fedora.. His biggest mistake in my opinion was what PE said below. That was very screwed up especially since several players family skipped the CUSA CG in Texas in hopes we'd play in a bowl that was closer to their home and then couldn't afford to go to Hawaii.. On Christmas Eve..

I got USM at 6-6. Very tough schedule. Offense will miss Brownlee. Defense down a tick with new DC. Hybrid safety position is an issue. LB's very average. Tackling in the spring was bad.

It was actually CUSA’s dime. Giving your players a week in Hawaii on somebody else’s expense is a pretty good deal.
Fedora never admitted it, but I truly believe the schedule was a big factor. The Hawaii bowl was played 2 weeks earlier, so Fedora & his staff got to stay and coach the game. That probably doesn’t happen if they go to the bowl in Dallas.

Not 100% true. The conference pays some of your travel expenses up to a capped amount. I have been told by several people close to the program, that the Hawaii vacation decision was very expensive for USM. I was even told that some coaches University credit cards had to be frozen during that trip as they were racking up some huge bills.
It was a terrible decision, and pissed off a ton of fans.

The bad... That decision was extremely poor by the AD at that time and gave a glimpse into his weakness as an administrator.
The good..The players wanted to go to Hawaii and many of them got a trip to experience Hawaii that they likely would never have.

So I've heard this told both ways.. I heard the players voted to go to Hawaii.. I've also heard they were not given a choice..
