RE: 4 game homestand to finish the year
The wife and I were at the Ted today for the WBB game and the Ted is a nice facility but it does look a bit dated and worn around the edges. Think their concession choices are better that the AUBC (probably the only real complaint I have about the AUBC) but overall the AUBC is a newer nicer arena. But the TED is a far cry ahead of some of the others I have seen both in the SBC , CAA and out of conference.

We are very fortunate to have such a nice first class facility (and in other sports also!!)

Agree, if they were both shiny and new it'd be a real tough call. As it is though, AUBC is the clear winner imo. I'm not biased at all either 04-cheers

Congrats to the JMU men's team that just clinched the double-bye in the conference tournament with that win tonight. Need the same energy again on Wednesday, as we look to move to the 2 seed and get a huge win for potential NCAA tournament seeding purposes.

The “TED” (I still call it by its old name) is a very good college arena, but as a basketball facility it’s showing it’s age, and is definitely a distant second to the AUBC. The TED looks a bit worn, like the TED’s center court scoreboard, which uses outdated digital technology.

Must be hard accepting the reality that the current ODU athletic programs are floundering, and that if you’re an ODU fan, the butterfly’s major sports (football and basketball) are living in the shadow of an ascendant JMU, which also boasts a more attractive campus and better athletic facilities.

So sad, too bad.

Yeah, no. ODUs stadium is the older predecessor of the AUBC by the same company/ contractor. in 10 years when they either renovate the arena, or another school follows suit with the same contractors lets not be those people then by not being those people now. Technology advances over the years and therefore facilities get outdated. However, their arena is an established force that they have had great home-court advantages on. Were still struggling to get to 50-60% attendance at times in fairly important games.

And while ODU hasn't exactly been successful to their standards in football and mens basketball the last few years, lets not call the team tied for 5th, that plays well in postseason tournaments a floundering program. Especially when they've played us real well twice. If the season ended today, we would play them in our first round of the tournament assuming they could beat like Coastal Carolina or ULM. Not a matchup i'd be looking forward to if I was JMU.

Next, ODU has a much better baseball team, about as equally matched of a women's basketball team, and decent womens soccer team. Just because were now 1-3 against them in football doesn't meam we should crap on all of their sports. We're due up to have our bad years in some big sports down the road as we start to play tougher teams. Lets make sure that while its fun to win that we win, have our quick little fun and move on. Because they'll remember this and treat us the same way when we have our downs. (Also if the programs they have are really that bad, why are we as a fanbase making such a big deal about beating them and jeering about it).

Lastly they annually bring in $20M a year in donor contributions to our now what $5M maybe. They will be able to start throwing money at things quicker than we can here in a few years, especially since 75% of their athletics revenue isn't coming from student fees. And their travel expenses likely decreased with the move while ours increased.

Long story short. Lets just focus on winning and not being dicks about it.

Why would you say you’re biased? 03-lmfao

AUBC is the better of the two arenas (TED coming in second place). Indeed, the AUBC is by far the best basketball arena in the SBC. In VA, only the JPC competes with the AUBC.

4 game homestand to finish the year
Bruce Pearl was asked before the Auburn/Alabama game if he would support Alabama in the tournament. His reply to the radio broadcasters was a hell no and that Alabama can go stick it in a socket for all he cared.

While JMU and ODU have mutual respect for each other....the fact is, for most JMU and ODU fans, coaches, players, etc...the state rival can go to "hell" as Bruce Pearl put it and our respective school is just bigger, badder, and cooler than the other .

The hate is real and should be embraced lol.

What’s this “1-3 record in football” against ODU you speak of? 01-wingedeagle

As for ODU’s “standards” in football, what would those be? Losing? 07-coffee3

Go over to the ODU board with your silliness.

ODU sucks. Period.

Embrace the hate. 04-cheers

Interesting predications. 2nd highest percentage to win the sun belt tournament behind Marshall

unfortunately, those sites only crunch numbers. and the numbers are good for us.

they show us winning a lot of games and taking schools like top 10 UVa to the wire.

but it fails to show how we are just as prone to **** the bed and lose to a horrendously bad Coppin State and Valpo.

Odds are against the UVA-JMU squad showing up 3 straight days. One of those games, Coppin-JMU will show up.

lots of philosophies can be successful in winning games, national championships or even conference championships.

Tony Bennett won a title with his value every possession, take the air of the basketball and play D philosophy. They were also the 1st one seed to lose to 16. They have also barely squeaked by Louisville and ND in the last two games. That style keeps teams in the game with low scoring

Arkansas 40 min of hell, the UNLV teams, Houston Phi Slama Jamma have had plenty of success with pressure d, push the ball - run and gun.

No matter the philosophy, you need the right players executing at a high level. To me, the issue is not By's style, its that we have very good players, not elite players. Drawing from our History, give me Willie Davis, Ron Curry, Steve Hood, McLinton, M Lewis, Ron Anderson, AJ Davis , even David Fanning, and lets see what this looks like.

I will take By's style over Bennett's everytime. I love to see the athleticism & creativity of the players.

That's definitely a casual take. Obviously JMU doesn't want ODU to have anything over us, but Alabama/Auburn can both afford the pay cuts if they both were to lose. JMU can not say the same thing about missing out on an extra conference distribution for ODU winning a game come late-march.

But then again... they still have to make it through Southern Miss and Marshall to end the regular season and then survive Pensacola for that to even be a discussion.

RE: 4 game homestand to finish the year
The finishing 4 game homestand won’t be perfect, but a 3-1 finish is likely as the Dukes play last place Ga State tonight.
I’m not sure what happened, but the wheels have come off the bus and their season has been a disaster in the first year of a brand new arena.
They are averaging 1789 fans per game and that includes a home game against crosstown ACC Ga Tech.
Brutally bad.

Hopefully the Dukes don’t slip on a banana peel tonight and we also get a little help from South Alabama knocking off Louisiana to finish 3rd which would trigger a bonus for Byington.

Most importantly, the Dukes need to come out injury free so they can be full tilt for a 3 game run in Pensacola.
