Well I figure after this deal the B12 or B1G will take a couple of Pac schools when the contract is up, so Fresno, Boise, Tulane, UTSA, UNLV would be next.

Depends on who is adding. SDSU was not next in line, but the Pac needed a team in CA.
Without considering that, I think the order would be:
USF
Memphis
Boise
UConn
Temple
Fresno
Tulane
ECU

All those choices and no "none of the above" option?

True, because the way things are going, it seems unlikely that SMU and SDSU will be the last G5 teams to be invited to join P5 conferences between now and 2030.

The Big Ten has already made it clear that they're likely to poach the PAC-12 again in a few years, and the PAC-12 has made it clear that they will add new member schools, when needed to replace losses.

I wonder if "none" should be an option at least for the foreseeable future.

Right now it's Memphis and USF, maybe UNLV and Fresno. If no PAC movement to the Big 12, maybe Colorado State. But a school like Tulane could jump up with a few years of success, especially if the market is right.

I voted Memphis and Boise, they're no-brainers. USF should be on that list, but they're just a mess right now still.

Tulane, UNLV, Boise State, Memphis, and USF.

- The "next 4" on the Big 12 expansion list (before the Pac-12 lost USC and UCLA) were USF, Memphis, Boise State, and SMU (via 365 Sports in 2021)
- Tulane and UNLV are the next two on the Pac-12 list, if they ever decide to expand past 12 (via John Canzano yesterday)

That's not exactly what he said. He was very confident on SMUDSU, but on the others he was just speculating.

Ya, I don't see them taking UNLV over Fresno(Pac actually had a convo w/ us) or even Boise. Tulane probably would be the SMU partner since like UNLV, Rice just not competitive and can't get people to watch them.

Tulane is going to be interesting in 4-5 years if they can keep the momentum they've started this year in both football and actually hoops.

1998 was great for them, then they disappeared. Hopefully they can keep it up. It helps w/ no UCF, UC, Houston. Makes their path to championships easier.

That's not exactly what he said. He was very confident on SMUDSU, but on the others he was just speculating.

"What does the Pac-12 want to be in 2024 and beyond? A 10-team conference? 12 or 14? Does it make sense to capture geography that extends the footprint into Texas?

How about Louisiana?

Does the Pac-12 look small-time (or opportunistic?) if it grabs SMU, San Diego State, UNLV and one other school?"

It's obvious what he's saying here, especially since it's the only sentence where he mentions SMU by name as an expansion addition in the article. Of course, the Pac-12 expanding beyond SMU and SDSU in 2023 is extremely unlikely, according to just about every reporter right now.

I think almost anything could happen. I'm mainly looking over the options and one made me chuckle a bit. I would be surprised if the Mid-American Conference was ever touched. C-USA has been mainly reaching into the lower divisions for their pickings. The Sun Belt is sitting pretty and seems content with everything after having just expanded. However, the current members of the MAC have been with the conference for decades. I'm not just talking 30 years, but since my grandmother was a little kid. 70+ years for some of the members. I just don't see it happening.

Not ruling out the possibility that such a thing could ever happen, but I feel that they'd be safe.

I have a 76-school layout for power conferences. After 76, I don’t see much separation.

Current power 65 +
XII 2023: BYU, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston (69)
PAC 202?: San Diego St, SMU (71)
Future: East Carolina, Memphis, South Florida, Temple, Tulane (76)

2x20, 2x18

B1G
Central: Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin
Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio St, Purdue
North: Maryland, Michigan St, Notre Dame, Penn St, Rutgers
Pacific: Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington

SEC
East: Clemson, Florida St, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia
South: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St
Southeast: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Southwest: Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M

ACC
Atlantic: Boston College, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Syracuse, Temple, West Virginia
Coastal: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina St, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Metro: Central Florida, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Louisville, Memphis, Tulane

PAC
Central: BYU, Colorado, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Utah
South: Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma St, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech
