Prime directives:
#1: Favor the team that can win it all but with no at-large chance (UNT) over the team with the at-large sewn up (CLT). More $$ for the league.

#2: favor the team staying (MTSU) over the team leaving (UNT). Trophy presentations way less awkward and maybe even toy jeeps for the crew at Christmas.

#3: Chili’s in Ruston is amazing but good luck getting them to keep the kitchen open late, even for a big event like the tournament championships. 12 innings of softball is plenty, thank you!

Is Chili's a thing again? I remember back in the "80's it was a good place to go. But, I haven't been to one in years. Seems like a place where old people go.

You may find this appalling, but in my many many decades of walking this earth, I have never eaten a salad. I generally avoid vegetables. My eating habits are often frowned upon by my co-workers. For breakfast today, I had a pint of ice cream and cinnamon sugar donuts. By the way if you haven't had Basin-Robins Cherry Jubilee, you got to try it. Stuff is great.

Taco salads are permissible, as long as there's plenty of meat atop it. Preferably brisket.

All the Californians moving there have voted to make them legal again.

UCF leads South Carolina 3-1 in the 6th

Charlotte beats Campbell 7-2

Nebraska/Wichita State are in a rain delay, looks like they have not started yet.

I didn’t watch much of the UCF game but there was a pickoff by UCF of a South Carolina base runner at 2nd.

Looked safe to me, live. Ump called her out. They replayed it from 5 angles and to my eye at least three of the views were definitely safe. Umps reviewed it and confirmed the out call.

Wonder what the UCF fans thought of the call? Freebie? Or did I just not see the play as clearly as the umps did? (I mean, I’ve never been trained as a softball umpire so what do I know?)

Wichita State rallies from down 5 to win 6 - 5 over Nebraska at the Stillwater regional. Won 2 challenges that turned the game, one taking a run away from Nebraska as the throw to the plate showed runner was out, and a second showing our player made it safely to first on a very close play, and she then ended up scoring. Great game. Big game against OSU this afternoon.

UCF went on to beat South Carolina 6-1 on Friday. But then lost round two to host FSU 5-1 and then lost the elimination rematch with uSC 10-1.

Wichita followed the same path, falling Saturday to Oklahoma State and then losing the Nebraska rematch (in extra innings)

Charlotte was blanked by Duke, but won their Campbell rematch and has survived to play today against Duke.

RE: AAC Softball?
Very excited to be finally moving our softball to the AAC. Wichita State (41-13-1), South Florida (31-19), & Tulsa (25-16), are all strong programs. 4 of the 5 C-USA programs moving over play very solid softball.

Charlotte 35-23 (wins over ranked teams: @ #10 Georgia, @ #23 Arizona St., & @ #11 Virginia Tech)

UNT 35-22 (wins over ranked teams: @ #7 Oklahoma State)

FAU 35-20

UAB 29-25

Seven of the ten 2024 AAC softball teams finished their '23 season with very good winning records. I see no reason why the AAC can't place at least two programs into the Regionals next year. 04-cheers

And in offseason moves... UTSA's best softball player, Kat Ibarra entered the portal and transferred to UNT. Ibarra led the Runners in batting average .368, doubles 14, triples 4, walks 22, & just about every other important stat.

I wonder if the size of Jeff Traylor's contract ($2.8 million per year) hurts the entire UTSA athletic department by limiting their ability to fire failing coaches.

That’s the list.
