Yes, good game indeed. App kept us on our toes tonight

I think Marshall is the most complete team we've faced in SBC competition. They have size inside, guys that can shoot from outside, and athleticism across the lineup.

Thanks for the praise. You could tell App can make a run in the conference tournament as well, really any of us can.

First place in the league is still up for grabs, it's going to be a tough match this Saturday against Louisiana. They really earned my respect scoring 64 points in one half to come away with a win against Georgia Southern in a game they were down 19 at the half.

It's going to take the best version of ourselves.

Do you know the status of Drue Drinnon? He went down awkwardly in the second half and it looked serious.

During a live ball the assistants must remain seated. The refs tend to overlook it if it's a spontaneous positive reaction but they can't stay standing.

Any chance you can provide a link for it? Because as I've stated. I looked. The only thing I could find in NCAA rules was that the assistant coach could stand when communicating with a player.

I understand the spirit of the rule to be that the assistant coach can stand to talk with a player on the bench, not players on the court.

BTW Good game Cats. Good to see Harrell on the floor even if he is not 100%. Dude is a baller. Hope the kid with the ankle injury is ok. That looked pas bon.

Yes, huge crowds a long time ago. I'll be happy with anything over 5k Saturday. Hope I'm surprised. We only had 3,256 last night. But, the Fabulous Cajun Chicken returns for the game Saturday so no telling how many will turn out! For anyone interested, there's some YouTube stuff on the Chicken.

I dunno for sure but my guess is since the vast majority of the fanbase is at least 1+ hour away it gives an opportunity for those fans to get home before midnight.

Makes sense. On the flip side, I can see people who don't get off work until 5:00, saying I will just watch from home. I'll give the AD credit though, at least he is trying to cater to his core supporters.

RE: SBC Basketball 2/2 - 2/4
So it just started a few years ago but to my knowledge, it was in hopes to increase local attendance on weeknights because families gave input that they weren’t coming due to the games ending too late and by the time they got home to put their kid to bed, it was past their kids bedtime. It was an attempt to allow things to be easier for families. Off the mountain has pretty much been written off for weeknight games. It’s impossible without taking time off unless you live in Winston-Salem or Hickory.

When the Sun Belt was a basketball power conference. Here are the top 5 for South Alabama. When some Jag fans say we used to have a big rivalry with UAB, you can see that reflected here.
12,200 vs Old Dominion - 3/4/91
11,106 vs UAB - 1/21/84
10,594 vs UAB - 2/16/91
10,549 vs UAB - 2/17/81
10,513 vs USB - 1/24/80

RE: SBC Basketball 2/2 - 2/4
If I may, let me chime in on a couple of things:

First: Officiating. The disparity between Thursday officials and Saturday officials used to be so egregious, it was pitiful. I coined the term "Saturday night in the Sun Belt," and trust me, our fans know what that means. I got called into the principal's (Commissioner Waters) office more than once because of my railing against Saturday officials, which were terrible because we used a pool of officials connected with the SEC and Big XII. We got the dregs.

Enter Karl Benson. He hired Mike Wood to be supervisor of officials. Wood had ties with the ACC and he talked them into agreeing that the SBC would get at least one very experienced official in each of their Saturday games. Crews have a tendency to take a page from the crew chief's book. There was still a disparity, but it was much less. I would be shocked from time to time when we'd have Final Four officials doing Sun Belt games.

When Keith Gill became Commissioner he decided we would use the same Supervisor of Officials for the major sports that the SEC was using. Since that time, football officiating has improved, but basketball and baseball have taken a step backward. We are back to Saturday night in the Sun Belt and the 72 free throws in the UL/GS game last Saturday was a great example of that.
____________________________________________________________

Marshall at Louisiana has a chance to be the most entertaining game of the entire season. Both teams have great guards, can rebound the basketball and have guys who can distribute it. Both teams like to play fast and neither team is great defensively. Each team has a "Player of the Year" candidate. I honestly won't be shocked if both teams score in the 80s or even the 90s. The teams have met only seven times in history. The first two meetings were in the NCAA tournament and in a Cajuns' sponsored tournament. A guy named Mike D'Antoni was the best player for Marshall. Of course, the Cajuns had some guy named Lamar, who scored more than 3400 points in his career. The Cajuns' quest for a regular season title could be decided in the next week, with Marshall tomorrow and at Southern Miss next Thursday.

Goodness, no. Cajuns have drawn more than that for many conference games over the years. But it's been a decade since it happened.

Ditto for us. A Marshall win would give us head to head against both of you and tied with you in record. We'd need USM to drop one game somewhere along the way.
