Drummond and Powell to Mini Camps
So excited for these guys Beydoun and Drummond aren't super explosive but are reliable and consistent. Maybe they get a real shot. Would love it for them and it would also help with Recruiting

This is incredible!! …I know this won’t hold for those just invited to rookie mini-camps. But it must still be a dream come true to say you were given a shot. What an experience for all these young men! I share all your enthusiasm. Best of luck to them all!!

Up until last season, I thought Beydoun had a real chance to be a crafty little Wes Welker type slot receiver. He didn't really improve on his terrific junior season but hopefully he is reenergized and gives himself a real chance to make it. I think he has the best chance to stick.

Some of these will be playing in a spring league in 2024.

Silly post. Big difference between being in the NFL and being invited to a training camp! A lot of people invited to camp are merely fodder/warm bodies/long shots but cool nonetheless.
Will there be spring leagues in 2024? Does anyone watch spring football? I'm sure the ratings are next to nothing, the sole purpose is probably to see if people will actually bet on these non consequential games.

ive said it a few times - the CFL is the only non-fall league worth watching

Dear Friends,
Sorry to disagree with some of you, but I have watched some games in the XFL and now the USFL. I try to watch the teams with Eastern players on their rosters, to see how they are doing.

I agree. I wish the USFL had a territorial system which would make it easier for local players to stay close to their college.
E.g., wouldn't it be nice if the MI panthers had first dibbs on UofM, MSU, EMU, CMU, WMU, TOL, BG.?

RE: Draft Prospects
What are everyone's thoughts on next year's draft? As it stands I don't know if I see anyone as a sure draft prospect (but that doesn't mean anything). This time last year I felt pretty good about Sow's chances, and like Bob said, I thought Beydoun might have a shot with a big year. I didn't see Jose's big year coming.
A few guys that came to mind:
Shine: He has played well and has pretty good size. Maybe with a big year he gets out some people's radar?
Price: I know this might be for more 2025. I know it's been somewhat limited time, but I've been impressed.
Dooley and Howie: I kind lump both of them together. They are both longtime starts, good players. Not sure if either is NFL good though?

Dooley and Howie have a real chance. They need to bring it this season. Like most people here, I thought Sow would be a top prospect and he proved us right.

Bob, I agree. Hass is light years more NFL capable than Drummond.
Matt Sexton would still be in the NFL had he not had the hernia operations but has done a reasonably good job in the XFL. The question is "when do you give up on maintaining your pro-sport body and move on with life".

That is the question. Alex would love the opportunity to play in the NFL, but on the other side of the coin, he has a Bachelor's degree in supply chain management and is working on completing an MBA and is already receiving job offers from headhunters at pay levels that would put him in a good position financially. Not NFL money, but way better than where I started coming out of college.

I'd expect Dooley to get some looks. Maybe Chase Kline too?

Alex is in a Win-Win situation. If I was ever in that position, I would just think the window is only cracked open for a very short time, you gotta go for it or I would think you would have regrets for the rest of your life. I think it will become apparent when it is time to move on.Even if you have a long, distinguished career in the NFL, you are only like 30 when it is all over. You have another 30+ years to do what us fans do--work and follow sports. Live the dream, baby!

Dan, I think you once again make a great point. The CFL is indeed more compelling because of its emphasis on the offensive side of the football. All that pre snap motion and only two downs to get ten yards is exciting and fun to watch. It may have prompted the NFL to make the pro-offense rule changes that enhances the game of today.
The XFL and USFL have more pure talent than the CFL. Better players, however, don't necessarily automatically translate into better games. The XFL and USFL assemble rosters a month or so before league inception and thus they have little experience or preparation of offensive football. That pre-snap motion of the CFL ain't gonna happen with the pre-league time constraints of the XFL or the USFL.
It is not all about the talent of the players, we watch sports for the quality of the game. Otherwise, why would be on this board?

RE: Draft Prospects
With all these pro selections and graduates getting tryouts, seems there is alot of attrition on the football team. I understand they have the top MAC recruiting class coming in, but would imagine these freshman will take time to work their way up to their potential. So, is the football team taking a step backwards next year?
