And kids will likely go with their biggest and best offer especially from a football factory with great coaching that cranks out pros like they do. Once they get there and settle in as a depth player and collect rings many realize they do want to actually play and look to somewhere to get on the field.

They all get 85 scholarships and the NCAA limits them to 105 roster slots at the start of the season. It’s not like every P5 is sitting on 40 non-scholarship players that are better than our starters.

“NCAA rules allow for 105 players to be rostered before the first day of class or the first game, whichever comes first.”

Trevor Borland and Matt Myers are in the portal.

Myers had one of the weirdest seasons ever. He appeared in only one game and ran for 110 yards and three touchdowns. He didn't even make a garbage time appearance in any other game even the ones in which Cole Snyder played poorly.

Exactly! G5s are the feeder to the P5 teams that didn't want these kids coming out of high school and can now go shopping for them in this free agency market to fill whatever holes they have.

No doubt that's true. But on the flip side, you also have talented P5 depth guys that want more touches/playing time and to be seen on film...so they drop down to G5 schools.
A good example is Justin Marshall (WR) at UB for his final season. He's racked up much better numbers in 1 season at Buffalo than his 3 season combined at Louisville. There will always be players like that around.

I doubt any, Coach Prime is bringing his kid in as QB so that rules out Schlee. Cooper and Cephas tweeting out offers, if they were a done deal they’d be sending one tweet out saying they’re gone like the kids at JSU did, not mulling over offers.

It’s not so much that our HC is still there. It’s that when DR was in at QB the offense stalled throughout the year. We have 2 other back up QBs that moved the offense better than he did. He probably figures the future is with those two QBs and not with him.

Are there any rumors or do CMU fans think Lew Nichols will transfer? I suppose having an underwhelming statistical season probably cooled his stock.

Thankfully not in portal yet lol. With chippewasinsider down right now a 247 site there really are no current rumors I am aware of. We don't even know what's happening with McElwain. Assume he will be back but strange following last yr success no contract extension as 2023 his deal is up.

Nichols got hurt in the first game and never was 100% after that. He missed (I think) three games and was clearly not himself when he played. Richardson, we all wish we knew what happened there. There were factors: new receivers, new OTs, new OC...but he clearly regressed after game 1. I'm inclined to think the OC/QB coach was a problem.
