KSU is just not a basketball school anymore. We suck lol

I dunno! I was just looking at the box score and the Owls tied the Gators in the second half. I think they are so much improved than just two seasons ago.

Ouch. I just watched the Crimson Tide absolutely dominate Liberty. Heck, when it first started I was leaning toward rooting for a Flames upset after the start the ASUN was having! Lol. But, McGee was way off and the game was never in question.

EKU05-- Don't understand how you can be a ul fan? As much as they-- ul and uk have done to hurt every other college in the state including EKU. And I am not even referring to sports-- but educational spending, blocking new degree programs, unequal (out of proportion) Frankfort funding, etc.. Also noticed LexColonel is a cardinal fan-- hard to comprehend as he is such a big, loyal EKU supporter.

I am WKU ONLY all the way. Yet have a lot of respect for Bellarmine, EKU, others. And leagues like the ASUN. The only way you will see an sec or acc shirt on me would be if someone put it on my dead body.

I have a deep disgust for ALL P5 schools. Big money, tons of media, and t-shirt fans.

But-- still a free country- to each his own.

I am a UL fan because of Denny Crum and anytime someone can beat the Ka-yats, they got got my support!
NAVY/USNA a different reason. Love going to Annapolis
I am first, foremost and always an EKU fan!!!

Please answer me this, why is there such distain by some (many) of your fans towards EKU? I have never seen such vile comments than has been posted since the WKU/EKU BB game. Calling our campus a “dump”, our students “drunk special education students”, criticizing everything from the attendance, the broadcast, Greg ( the “voice of the Colonels” and a WKU graduate, who I would put up against anyone). And I don’t know where this came from, someone on your board making ridiculous comment regarding the post game that the area looked looked like a Nazi camp , or something to that effect. Then they are emphatic, there is no rivalry for WKU. If that is the case why all the inappropriate comments ? Why would we even be a blimp on their radar, so please explain to me why all of this crap is written about EKU. I did not see anyone on the EKU board resort to juvenile and out right insults. Discuss the game period, this other stuff is petty and childish. Bottom line, if these people don’t consider EKU a rival why would they even bother?

The EKU arena looked great on TV! The Colonels also led most of the game and represented the ASUN so well in that matchup.

Well-- if WKU fans were that ridiculous-- I disagree with them. Yes he is an EXCELLENT broadcaster (awards to prove it) and it is a nice arena even before the remodel. I can't control rabid fans.

I think you need to re-read post #23 above. One of the reasons EKU has not been able to maximize itself even more as a university has (to some extent) been BECAUSE of UL and UK. Yes Denny Crum is great and one of my all time favorites but the non-sports political power of UK, UL has held down other schools in the state. NO-- WKU has no political "pull" in Frankfort to hurt EKU-- so please don't try to make that case and deflect from how UL has hindered other state schools (EKU included).

Deflect? None intended, just answered your question. You asked about WHY I was also a UL fan and NAVY. Just to be clear. EKU will always be my first and favorite. Why do many WKU fans follow the cats? And just take a look around in a few message boards, everything I posted above, was said by WKU fans.
I don’t hate Louisville. Watching them as I write this vs Clemson.
I guess you are correct regarding the political connection, I would argue it is more UK, but if you say UL too, okay. Never said WKU had influence over EKU in Frankfort, ever! Back to UL, once again seeing them beat UK is one motivation, and became a basketball fan when Crum was coaching. No other explanation I can give you.
I do not expect you to “control rabid” western fans, I asked you what’s the problem that they are that arrogant? Btw, western’s basketball coach is an arrogant azz, his post game comments were completely uncalled for. Maybe that’s where these “rabid” fans get it.

Sorry- I can't answer your question about "why" some fans act like immature jerks. That is just "SOME" fans being fans-- every fan base has some. Why the arrogance? Bad behavior, not taught to show class, etc..? I don't know.

I try to show respect to all fans-- even though I'm FAR, FAR from perfect.

Reading fan boards you unfortunately have to expect some of this junk.

Everyday fans (NOT on message boards) of both schools are much more civil.

Sadly--- people on the "net", facebook, etc. hide behind a keyboard and act like idiots whether it be sports, politics, or whatever-- of course it does not make it acceptable though.

I've posted back and forth with some of my fellow fans about this in the past and they wind up attacking me and labeling TOPSTRAIGHT as a **blank. So-- you just have to consider the source and move on.

Go NAVY! (unless playing WKU)

Louisville isn't without its blemishes, but if you look at the overall arch of the program, they went from one-time mid-major status to the program with the largest athletics budget in the ACC. It's a pretty inspiring story on the whole. UK did their best to hold them back, but Louisville broke through. It was never supposed to happen...but it did. In hindsight it can be easy to forget what an underdog that program was and what it had to do to become what it is with most of its own state rooting hard against it.

I mean, I could restart the whole argument of WKU trying to block us, etc. It is, unfortunately, the way of the world in cutthroat college athletics these days.

Beside that, for Louisvillians that program is bigger than a school. It has a relationship with a whole city, a metro area of 1.3 million people, that is pretty unique among programs. For those of us from this city who grew up with the Cardinal legends of yesteryear, it's just part of our identity. Even now, at age 39, my EKU fandom has just gotten to about half the age of my U of L fandom. Those ties run deep.

***For the record, I do root for EKU in head to head matchups, but outside of that it's a 1A and 1B kind of thing.

Good answer. I can kind of understand.

Just know this. UL (not just UK) has derailed and prevented ALL-- ALL the other public schools in the state for many DECADES from adding programs, degrees and having the proper funding in Frankfort to be able to advance as universities including EKU. This is so MUCH larger and longer (and more important) than the current EKU-- WKU situation that it like comparing the size of the SUN to a ping pong ball.

Thanks for your polite response.

Of course it is, and I'm with you that it shouldn't be happening. I've been critical of that before. But I can also see the line of thinking from the state that if you have that many universities that are your top-tier then you don't appear to have a flagship (or flagships) to hang your hat on. The regional schools have been the lower-cost, less prestige option. Maybe that's needed on some level.

As far as the EKU/WKU thing...it's smaller because the schools in play have less power. Even WKU. You can only deny someone else from getting the things you already have, and until one of us has more then the stakes will always be smaller too. You're not going to look me in the face and say WKU, or EKU, or Murray State wouldn't play the same game if they had as much to lose, right?

Ultimately, regardless of what a school is or is not able to do, there's a chain reaction here. UK doesn't want Louisville to be seen as a true equal, Louisville wants to keep WKU from making it a three-way competition, WKU wants to maintain its perception as above the other regionals, EKU wants to even that up and hopefully create some extra separation from Morehead and NKU.

I might argue that among our state universities only Murray State sort of accepts their own identity and has gone in their own direction that isn't really taking a shot at anyone else.

Yes-- what you say makes a lot of sense. I'll say one thing-- nobody is going to cut any non-P5 school a break and everybody (G5) or lower has to fight for every thing they get-- every penny. It is a beyond ridiculous disparity.

Jacksonville 73 @VCU 62

JU was missing starters Omar Payne & Dylan O'Hearn and back up PG Jalen Nesmith tonight. The Dolphins lost 6-7 returnee Bryce Workman before the season to a leg injury.

Solid win!! Glad for a change of subject on this forum! LOL.

UNA beat Alabama State tonight but the Lions are up and down so far this early season. I'm eager to get to the conference games!!
