2022-23 ASUN Basketball
Wow!!
Queens of Charlotte just opened up their D1 era with a home win over Marshall! The Royals hit a buzzer beater to win by 1 point.
Their arena is small but it was packed and rocking!!

EKU 137, Miami-Middletown 52.
EKU had stopped MUM on their last possession and gotten the rebound, but our guy got careless thinking the game was over allowing a MUM player to pick up a lose ball and lay it in just as time expired.
Why does any of that matter?
That layup caused it to not be the largest margin of victory in EKU history.

Thanks, all! Yes, a great night to be a Knight, and it's nice that the conference continues to look good.
I think at least some of us Bellarmine fans were cautiously optimistic about this being at least a very competitive game, given U of L's exhibition performances (or lack thereof); BU did lose a lot from last season, but picks up some really talented young guys.
Scotty D. is such a hard worker that (assuming we're in a period where this sort of thing is permitted by the regs) he's probably messaging recruits right now, instead of celebrating, as well as getting ready for Morehead State.

I don't know what he was doing when you posted, but this morning he was on the radio with Drew Deener and Mark Blankenbaker as I was driving to work. I went to a concert last night so I only got to listen to about the last four minutes of the game on the radio as we were driving home. I'm a Louisville fan, but I'm from a family of Bellarmine alums, so I have all kinds of mixed feelings about last night's game.
For Louisville...it's going to be a long season. But with the threat of a tournament ban no longer hanging over recruiting, I suspect in two years' time Kenny Payne's group will be a force to be reckoned with.
For Bellarmine it's a huge win on a big night as a new era was beginning in the YUM! Center. The nights are one of the most disciplined teams in the country.
Let's keep things rolling for the ASUN tonight as Western Kentucky visits the newly rechristened Baptist Health Arena @ Alumni Coliseum to take on the Colonels. Vegas has the Tops by 7, but I really like our young group.

RE: 2022-23 ASUN Basketball
I'm checking out some of the Knights/Cards replay right now. Didn't realize that the Cards lost an exhibition game by 10 points to D2 Lenior-Rhyne already. Wow. That's a tough start for their new coach.

EDIT: Wow!! What a brilliant play at the end of the game by Betz to throw the ball over his shoulders through the backcourt! I've never seen that before.

It wasn't really a secret that this team didn't have all the pieces. This season will be tough for Louisville, but optimism remains high that with unhindered recruiting finally an option again it won't take long for Kenny Payne to do what Kenny Payne does and bring in some big time talent.
Lenior-Rhyne is coached by Louisville alum and former EKU assistant Everick Sullivan. He and Payne were teammates for one season at Louisville.

Yeah, I loved it! First time I'd seen that as well.
Betz is, as they say, a "heady" player.

Very. It’s obvious he’s a veteran in Coach D’s system.

The Colonels led most of this game (Up as many as eight in the second half). A few things that cost us:
-WKU switched to a 1-3-1 trapping right after we crossed the time line. Our guards are almost entirely freshman, and they struggled with that.
-We shot less than 50% from the free throw line.
-We also went stone cold from the outside in the second half. We're generally a good outside shooting team, and we were in the first half last night. It didn't hold up late.
