MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
Game 1 is only a week away!

Great to have Navy back at home. Tough first test to see if all of the new pieces can gel. I think they wanted to have flip flopped the game 2 Mid-Atlantic Christian, but couldnt work it out. Navy and then Army at home in a span of 2 weeks!

So, the Army game is set for 4:00 on 11/19. It surely would be nice if the Athletics Dept could bump the time up to 5:00. And please don't say that this would mess FLO Sports up.

Makes it pretty hard to get back from beating the Spiders in time to watch us beat Army.

It's part of a mini-tournament. They have Army vs Radford the next day at 2pm. Im guessing Army will head back right away.

Maybe they could flip-flop the Radford-Army game to first and have Tribe v Army on Sunday. Radford doesnt play the Tribe until that Wednesday.

I just read that the Tribe/UR game starts at 12:00. So you might make the 4:00 start if you drive like a banshee, especially if you leave early with the Tribe having a comfortable 3-score lead with just a few minutes left....

But changing the time to 5:00 would be ideal.

Squids/Mids won by 19 last year in Annapolis. They also waltzed out of Charlottesville with a win over UVA on opening night of the season.

I think we're going to know right away with this crew. Talent level is so much better than last year, but almost everyone is new. Looks to me like 10 players could get meaningful minutes with the new offense that favors three point shooting and ball movement (a novel concept).

And I am hoping that defense is a point of emphasis also. Athletic players with length and quickness and the potential for nice depth would seem to play right into pressure defense and an up tempo offense. Perhaps I am just plain delusional after all of these years.

Actually got the chance to go to that one. It was a bleak night at the Naval Academy.

Navy was picked to finish 4th in the Patriot, but this is a very inexperienced, young roster. Expect them to be well coached, but if we don't dominate this game, then it will be another long season.

I can't imagine dominating or being dominated in the 1st game of the season being too telling of anything long term. This is an entirely new team. I expect sloppy play and mistakes. I also expect to see flashes and get a glimpse at how this team wants to operate. Are they able to consistently defend? Do they value the ball offensively, or are we back to committing unforced turnovers? Do they attack, or are they content passing the ball around the perimeter the entire shot clock. Is the guard play improved and are guys getting the ball in a position to score effectively? Who is going to be the offensive focal point and leader with Kochera gone? Win or lose, do they compete?

Yeah, guess I'm being a little hard, but difficult not to feel a short leash after last season. Navy's backcourt (which may even be a four guard offense) will be solid, so, our revamped backcourt will need to show they can facilitate our front court advantage.

Excited for the new season! According to Barttorvik, The Tribe have a 57% chance to beat Navy with a projected final score of 69-67 (nice).

I think the new crew returns the favor for last years game and wins solidly. 78-65[/code]

MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
Game notes out for tomorrow’s game.

Rice, Dorsey, Mullins, Collier and Wight listed as probable starters. Mullins has to be for D and experience but I’d expect Karasinski and Nelson to get minutes early and often. I think Anders will end up as our best PG this year and Jack will be starting before the end of the year.

Go Tribe!!

MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
As noted earlier, Navy doesn't return a lot of Varsity experience off of a pretty good 21-22 squad. But they always bring a lot of physical maturity.
Two starters return in :
Sr Tyler Nelson 6'6 215lb (9 pts / 5 rebs)
Sr Sean Yoder 6'3 200lb (5pts / 3 rebs)

Five more with game experience, most with minimal minutes or contributions
Most notable and likely contributors:
Sr Daniel Deaver 6'8 235lb (8 pts / 4 rebs)
Sr Patrick Dorsey 6'5 205lb (4 pts / 3 rebs)
Jr Austin Inge 6'0 190lb (4 pts / 2rebs)
Sr PJ Roach 6'1 180lb (1 pts / 1 rebs)
Sr Nate Allison 6'7 230lb (1 pts / 1 rebs)

The rest are unknowns. Navy runs a developmental team comprised primarily of underclassmen. No telling which freshmen or past development players make the jump up to "varsity"

This seems like a good idea. Given the small rosters of college bball, why dont most teams have a JV division? D1 JV could play at the DIII level or other JV teams at a club competition price, but get needed experience and keep interest with their playing time during early years. These leagues could be in the fall before regular season starts if there is no room for players/walkons etc for occasional use by the Varsity team.

Regarding Navy's developmental team, it is critical for them in that they really can't take full advantage of the current transfer dynamics. You can transfer there, but they have a max age requirement on enlistment day AND you have to attend 4 years, starting as a freshman, regardless of your standing elsewhere.
