It's probably also easier for them to run a JV team because the Service Academies are free, so they don't have to worry about scholarships.

We do have a club basketball program, occasionally players are called up from it.

Not to mention Navy & Army have special circumstances where the full student body is on "scholarship" so they can afford to run a couple full rosters. Most D1 programs outside of that can't afford to recruit D1 quality players to fill out multiple rosters. Some schools don't offer enough scholarships to fill one roster, but that is a different thread. Of course the downside to that is not all D1 quality players are interested in a service career, so that shrinks the recruiting pool. The developmental teams are comprised of some D1 talent but also a lot of fringe guys that played high school ball.

Two starters return in :
Sr Tyler Nelson 6'6 215lb (9 pts / 5 rebs)
Sr Sean Yoder 6'3 200lb (5pts / 3 rebs)

Yoder? With a name like that, he must be good. Any relation to Bronson?

Like all of you, I have no idea what to expect tomorrow night, both from the men and women, but, I think it’s more fun that way. I hope we have improved our FT making ability this season. Last season, even with the young squad, was just horrendous. There is more explosiveness and experience this season, so I am hoping for a great win for both teams.

Expect significantly better FT results as the team is doing competitive FT contest of shorting 20 each head to head. Anders told me he was hitting 20 straight and still dropping in standings as he got beat in sudden death 3 days in a row.

We still need work however from our new bigs based on the standings that I saw prior to the QB Club meeting last Monday that the staff inadvertently had still left out in the Kap.

Rice, Dorsey, Mullins, Collier and Wight listed as probable starters. Mullins has to be for D and experience but I’d expect Karasinski and Nelson to get minutes early and often. I think Anders will end up as our best PG this year and Jack will be starting before the end of the year.

Go Tribe!!

If I remember correctly from the Tip-off Banquet on Friday night, Mullins was considered our best shooter and the staff said he needed to take more shots when open

That would definitely be a surprise fo me. Mullins, over his career at Rice, was never a great outside shooter. Perhaps you meant Case. IMO, he is more of an unknown and wildcard with his outside shooting.

Nope, that is what they said. Mullins is our best shooter and he needs to quit passing up his shot opportunities.

RE: MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
Makes sense, his junior year he shot nearly 35%. Don't know what happened with Rice last year but maybe he got dragged into a role where he had to create his own shot and his percentage dropped. He looks poised to be an off ball guard so hopefully his percentage looks like junior year or higher.

Case and Dorsey are wild cards since this is the first season where they may get meaningful minutes. Rice, Nelson, and Ayesa all have relatively poor percentages, but with *what seems to be* a slew of offensive threats with this team, those may go up too. Line is further back now vs our 3 point golden years. Good shooters are probably more in the 32-35% range vs. old line was more like 35+. The good news is it looks like we have 6 guys who could be good 3 points shooters which we haven't had since probably '18-'19. Should create some good offense.

Wow. Now I'm intrigued. He was a career 28% 3pt shooter at Rice and primarily did his scoring on penetration and transition. If he truly is the best shooter on the team, either our team has shooting issues or he has untapped abilities.

Someone close to MBB promised me our team will be good. Our staff has to show improvement and I hope we are all pleasantly surprised by our team’s performance.

Lol. Had the same thought. For now I'm choosing to believe that Dane is the 3 point whisperer.

I normally watch games with the volume muted but since there has been so much turnover on the roster I’ll need the sound on so Jay can tell me who in the heck we have on the floor.

Make sure you are on the right feed. There is a different one than the women's broadcast.

Instant impressions:

1. Wight already picked up a needless foul.
2. Rice is shooting too much.
3. Collier and Dorsey both looking good so far!
